BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

Here's a screenshot from that Github page... So just to clarify... Even though it says "BlueSCSI-Pico2-58226df.uf2" firmware can be tested "on any version of BlueSCSI hardware," the performance improvements for Write Speed only occur when you have a Pico 2 board installed, correct? In...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I decided to try a Farallon PhoneNET networking test with my WarpSE Mac SE and my SE/30. Names show up in the Chooser, but I can only connect only when WarpSE is disabled, as shown in the video below. NOTE: I only tested 0.7b because I didn't have time to flash 0.7c yet. (At 5:21 I said say...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Certainly. Here's the Mac-O-Meter voltage test while booted from my internal BlueSCSI v1 and with a Mouse and Keyboard attached. And you can see it draws 33.7W of power (with WarpSE installed): Note that my SE Reloaded Motherboard is still installed, and so is WarpSE running firmware 0.7b...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

So when you power off, press Interrupt, power on, then release Interrupt, it boots using the stock 8MHz processor and all is well with LocalTalk networking, including login?

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Kai, you are an incredibly kind and generous person. If you were my next door neighbor, I'd give you a call saying, "I'll be right over!" But I suspect there would be some post office gripes about the battery. The upside is that, despite the lack of Boot Camp Drivers, I was able to flash...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Because I really need a way to flash at home, I spent my entire today today working on this problem. I tried using a Windows app named "brigadier" in hopes of downloading newer versions of the Boot Camp drivers, but there seems to be only one for the 2015 15" MBP 11,5, And because it's...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

@phipli I sincerely and humbly appreciate the cautionary words about the headphone jack output. I really do mean that. And I applaud your persistence and passionate on this topic. I also hold your opinions and work to better the vintage Mac community in very high regard. Thank you!👏 But in my...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

If possible, it would be great if you could test audio by installing Spectrum Holobyte Tetris and then listening to the opening music. You can disable or remove WarpSE to see how the audio sounds normally. Sometimes listening through the SE's speaker can be difficult to hear the differences...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

@ppuskari I have not tried any of the 0.7 versions yet. I can only say that with 0.6h, the intro music from Spectrum Holobyte Tetris sounds just as good to my ears as stock 8 MHz audio. If you have not used Tetris yet, I would strongly advise you to do so because it helps you detect bad audio...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

@Zane Kaminski My intention was to drive to the office (the only place where I have access to a Windows PC) in order to flash “0.7a-fastscsi”, but should I wait for your “b” firmware instead? (i’ve not driven to the office yet. I am actually on my iPhone away from home right now.)

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

U2E & U2F chip locations use CD74ACT257E, as shown here. U11F & U12F chip locations use SN74LS245NE4 as shown here. U9D used the original HAL16L8ACN chip moved from the stock SE motherboard, as shown here. Schematic page showing the GLU chip is attached as a PDF. My complete BOM is here. If...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I ended up watching videos for two hours last night. I then went back to the SE (which had been powered for those two hours), and I turned up the brightness and tested. No problems found with the mouse. I then switched it off and went to bed. This morning (after a good 8 hours of sleep), I...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Thanks. I did way too many tests and still have more planned. But the fact remains that I spent all last weekend testing with the machine fully assembled like it is now, and I had the various problems I've reported before. That was using a different firmware version for WarpSE, however. And...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Could be. I just got back home. It's been just under 3 hours since I last powered on the SE. The machine is still fully assembled with the case on. I connected my keyboard, mouse, and Model B FEMU. Got a single bong and it booted from BlueSCSI just fine. I then powered off, pressed...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Bad news FEMU Model C triggers the Double Bong too on this SE Reloaded motherboard. 😢 I confirmed that after work tonight by connecting my SE Reloaded motherboard with WarpSE (firmware 0.6h), a mouse & Keyboard, and my Model C connected to the External Floppy Drive connector. Got the double...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

No because I eat like a crazy lion so as to have more time to test, but I still don't have enough time on my lunch breaks. That's because I have to pull everything from storage, set everything up, test, then tear it all down and pack it back in storage because this is my workplace and we need...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

If you are looking at my scope screenshots, you will see the Power-ON happens, then Vcc rises to 5.0V. RESET/HALT remains low during that time. Then there is another 300ms with RESET/HALT remaining low, and after that it rises to 5v. That is normal. In other words... With or without the...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Not sure. The website here only talks about: 1. New OLED display 2. New SD Card slot (I like the old push-to-eject slot better) 3. Black PCB color 4. New frosted case The adapter you use to connect to the external drive connector is also a tiny bit different from Model B. But like I said...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Steve Chamberlin replied to me by email today suggesting I use my scope to probe Vcc and Reset/Halt on the 68000. I did that but couldn't find any issues, as you can see from my marked-up scope screenshots below. Power-ON Timings (RESET/HALT goes HI about 300ms after Vcc rises to 5v)...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

@ppuskari While I have been using SCSI Director Pro 4.0 exclusively “for testing,” I’ve never installed a SCSI Director Pro “driver” on any SCSI drive. My BlueSCSI v1 drive volumes all have the Eric Helgeson recommended HD SC Setup 7.3.5 driver installed.
