    Color Classic Resolution Switching

I don't think it's "required", more 'designed-for'. Example, you can run MacOS on a Lisa - but it looks a little odd because the Lisa does not natively have "square" pixels. For the Macintosh XL, there was a "square pixel" mod to correct this. My point is, it should 'work', but it may not...

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

Cool, THANKS for those! I was wondering about the LC. I do have a IIe card in my CC II, and I do have a LC575 'board, so have been toying with doing the VGA mod. Good to know I won't lose IIe capability. I'm still curious as to whether or not MacOS could access this 560x384 mode without...

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

That begs an interesting question... if you're correct that the Apple IIe card forces 560x384, then that would mean it's "boosting" the resolution of a stock CC. Are you sure it's not just a case of the CC analog board having the ability to sync on the 'lower' Apple IIe resolution? How have you...

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

...or what about going to 560x384 in "Mac" mode? That might be more doable - since the h/w has been modded for 640x480? I assume the Apple IIe mode is stable with the VGA mod in place?

    A takky Mac…..

I've asked @-SE40- to try the 832x624 switch combo and report back. Will be interesting to see if there some Mac resolution support in his flat panel circuitry - I would not be totally surprised, though the resulting image may not look great! What's bugging me most, however, is why the '630...

Why doesn't the Performa 630 (and friends) support 1024x768?

Hey folks... spawning this query off from the discussion over on @-SE40- 's Takky Mac thread : https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/a-takky-mac.1363/ According to multiple sources - including https://everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/specs/mac_performa_630.html - the Performa 630 has 1Mb...

    A takky Mac…..

It'd be worth trying 2, 4, 5, 8 - which is 832×624 = the highest resolution the '630 on-board video supports. See if your panel will sync on that.

    A takky Mac…..

Hate to burst the bubble... but I believe you have one of these: ...and if so, the answer is on the other side: 3, 4, 5, 8 = 640x480 I'm afraid.

Are you looking for ADB cables? I have a few 3rd party ones - you can have for postage:

    A takky Mac…..

Considering there's a good chance anyone considering doing this will likely be doing so due to a battery-bombed logic board... they should be able to harvest the ADB and any other hard to find connectors off that damaged board? 🤔 Further, I believe said ADB connectors are the pinout / spacing...

AST Research Mac86 DOS Compatibility Card Surprise

Wow... neat! That (37 pin?) connector will be for a 5 1/4" floppy. Probably the same drive Apple made for the NuBUS card that allowed you to read/write "IBM" and I believe CP/M formatted floppies. There is some driver s/w around for the slightly more common AST NuBUS DOS cards, but NO idea...

Sure. Roger mentions 2 x 4 in his listing, so may be worth dropping him a mail to see if he's expecting them back in stock?

ahh... so... what about getting the Dremel out and making 'tabs' by dremelling-off (is that a word?) the excess either side?

BTW... not in NL, but I have purchased several variations from this gentleman : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265409701541 He does show 'lugged' 50-way in the listing. Also has an option for 8-way, but those are out of stock. Fun fact... his name is "Roger Moore" - :) Super nice guy!

    A takky Mac…..

Not super pretty/elegant... but what about using a 16-way and removing the 'outer' 4 pins on either end? The 8way (2x4) 'key' should still work. Just a thought.

I don't have a caliper/micrometer, but perhaps these are better than nothing?

I was thinking along similar lines... but IMO some contrast is in order. Rather than clear on clear... what about black/smoke acrylic for the chassis?
