Sony CR-45 4.7uF cap replacement for real?

Sitrep: PSU and House intact. It sure looks weird but everything fired up ok and I let it run for 5 mins or so. Got to fix brokern traces on the Mac II motherboard now... Thanks @JDW for your SE/30 Sony PSU recap where you drill holes in the board for the big caps - it gave me the confidence to...

Sony CR-45 4.7uF cap replacement for real?

Thanks Gerry. I’ve purchased the best specced caps I can find (12000 Hrs @ 105°C; 100 mA @ 120 Hz; 250 mA @ 100 kHz). I can’t find the ripple specs for the original but can’t imagine they would be better than the best available today - unless there was a different subclass of cap that use to...

Well I'll be a monkey's Uncle... DayStar Control Panel added all the goodness - I take it all back DayStar - your stuff does work. Here's APD from June and todays comparison. Thought I'd give Doom a crack too! I was a PC Boy back in '92 - to be honest I didn't even think a Mac from 2025 could...

Those stats are some reassurance at least - thanks! I got no difference in any of my APD tests - maybe my card is faulty or I’m missing some Daystar software? I’ll try out Speedometer next… or even Doom?!?

I found one in a Quadra 700 I picked up (25MHz). From what I can work out it does absolutely nothing - although I’ve not done exhaustive testing.

Recapped Mac II with NUBUS issue

I share your pain @blturner with a Macintosh II with similar problems (820-0228-A) Occasionally I get an all grey screen and a reset (NMI) also gives me half a sad Mac. After a recap I've gone cross-eyed trying to find broken traces but only the one found so far (even with lots of candidates)...

Sony CR-45 4.7uF cap replacement for real?

Hi All, I really don't trust the physical size difference between these old orange caps and the new, hopefully, replacement caps (sitting on top). Is this physical size difference ok - it seems huge? Old 4.7uF 250V ChemiCon KX Series (40mm tall) vs new 5.6uF 400V ChemiCon KXE Series (17mm tall)...

Many thanks Max! It’s definitely thrown me too.

Macintosh IIci 5V to GND resistance?

Many thanks Eric! Looks like I can eliminate this as a source of problems.

Macintosh IIci 5V to GND resistance?

Hi, Can I ask a favour please? Can someone with a working IIci please measure the resistance of their 5V rails to GND (e.g. the positive side of C14 to Ground). I'm trying to fix up a IIci but not sure whether the 16-20ohms I'm getting is normal for the IIci - I've seen a few posts online, but...
