Radius Macintosh SE Full Page display pictures

There's a Vid out there explaining that the FPD system was the first of the "modern" windowing environments as was adopted by Apple and in universal use across all platforms today.

    Mac IIsi Repairathon

Wohoo! I have almost that many to recap, but only two cases. Have fun! Your battery bombed boards will make wonderful donors if worse comes to worse. Hoping the somnolent IIsi in SE/30 project springs to life! @Bolle?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Yep, they're wildly different under the hood, entirely different architectures. I'll see if I can drop an LCIII Block Diagram in for comparison to the Q605/LC475.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

The LC475 and Q605 are twins, there's a jumper you can change to fake up one in the other's case, all the same Quadra bits inside. Developer Notes for Macs have Block Diagrams to compare components/architectures. Q605 was handy:

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Cool, linkage? Is there a DRAM/VRAM minimum speed rating complication?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Interesting, so they used the same ASICs et al as on the 840AV? That was the only 68040/40 machine released. Where did your 475 component spec originate?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Either one, not one for overclocking here, so sticking with 25Mhz would be fine, it's the FPU that counts. Q605 was first gen Quadra magazine covergirl, reviews noted that its 25Mhz 68LC040 outperformed IIfx 68030/FPU floating point performance, but full 68040/25 with FPU would be wickedlier...

    A very special Mac Portable

Indeed, favorite is the god "Finagle" in Niven/Pournelle world building of space faring civilizations. Glad it was appreciated. I'd seen that clip many. many times, enjoying it every time, but this was the first time I thought about it critically. It would be an interesting experiment to see a...

The gods of friction and mass would disagree. ;)

    A very special Mac Portable

Very nice Video! Who buggered the FDD to eject the media like that for a game of catch? Was it Apple's clowns or NASA's?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Concur, the somewhat less sexy of the Q605/LC475 twins would be one of the primo examples of the 68040 generation. If you've a need to run PPC code you're better off with even the lowest rung of the lineage leading up to the P6360/6300. A full '040 would make a much better upgrade IMO.

Radius Macintosh SE Full Page display pictures

Nice! That was my setup of dreams in 1988! Doing graphics thru the SE Periscope was so frustrating that I almost bought the 12" XL. Thankfully waited for a used IIx, graduating to a cheap 19" TPD Football Field, still single bit, but oh what a difference!

    My first haul

Very nice, especially for a first haul! Cube I can do without, but those Graphite twins would be what's missing from my collection. My DA does nicely though, too many Macs on hand. Which G3 'Book did you snag?

    Help identify Radius videocard

Nice find! I lucked into a bargain basement Thunder IV GX 1600 that was mis-listed on eBay. Getting one in a Q650 is pretty sweet. What other cards were in there?

Upgrading Powerbook 190 to 68040 with FPU?

The entire power management system is different between those models. You can replace the 190's horrific trackpad with the lovely Duo TrackBall assembly because there's clearance available underneath evil pad, whereas the 5300 is filled to the brim of that cubic with the larger power kluge. One...

Upgrading Powerbook 190 to 68040 with FPU?

Wayyyback in the day, some compatible chips became available. Folks at the MLA snapped them up, keen on doing something silly with them like installing AUx or some such. Try searching there. Might even be as old as the Snitz Archive?

Sorry about the noob inquiries, but would appreciate a little input here, need a starting point for learning a bit about this stuff. ;)

Reverse PAL / GAL Truth Tables

Your double post is the perfect spot to drag things off tangentially! Been trying to wrap my head around rotation of the Radius FPD/SE output for my cloning project. @zigzagjoe made this suggestion: That card appears to be completely discrete or programmable logic. It would be simpler to just...

PowerBook 5300 with iPad screen replacement

FDD bay VST Technologies AC adapter/PSU outta the 190/5300 hacks drawer. Needs work, but in looking at it, I realized that FDD bays in general might be a great spot to put the USB-C power supply hack? In earlier 'Books w/SCSI only and fixed drives, you'd need to hardwire the power connection...

PowerBook 5300 with iPad screen replacement

Wow! So nice. How well does it fit the bezel? Larger than and trimmed edges to fit? Kudos for doing something useful in the floppy bay, few think of that. Haven't seen that wedge since a French TeleCom made a PB100 series machine wireless. Also, VST Technologies did an AC adapter for the FDD...
