What are your vintage grail items?

Yes, removed the battery first thing. I'll be recapping the logic board shortly. And then the analog board. Given the yellow tint on the monitor, I'll probably be re-flowing many of the solder joints on the analog board.

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Just a good cleaning. I'm hoping all the contact points that rub against other plastic should be well hidden (where the mouse button may rub when clicking). The slides underneath were covered with painters tape. Really my only concerns are the cable and any rubbing from my finger or palm...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

I actually went with vinyl/plastic dye in a spray can for the mouse, to see how it would work. The results were surprisingly good. I’d say you’d be hard pressed to tell it’s not original. I put it on a bit too strong and got a bit of a bump from extra paint, but the texture and finish are...

What are your vintage grail items?

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I have a NeXT mouse with my NeXT Station, but I believe it is the non-ADB kind. I may see about picking one up. Side benefit: I can use it with my NeXT Cube I will one day acquire!

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Good news, I did a bit of cleanup, connected up a set of mismatched platinum ADB keyboard / mouse, the machine powered on! The screen initially had a yellow hue to it, but a friendly bump on the side caused it to become correctly colored (will be reflowing the solder joints on the analog...

What are your vintage grail items?

Recently picked up a Macintosh TV. Sold as non-working, with no mouse and no ADB cable for the keyboard. I paid more than I'd like, but took a chance it could be salvaged. Got it today and cleaned it up a bit, checked for anything terrible on the logic board, and fired it up. It turned on...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Package arrived this morning and it is all in one piece. It was pretty dirty, but cleaned up pretty well - not too many scratches, but overall the plastic is fair. Pleasantly surprised to find the logic board in good shape - no major cap leakage and the battery (original) had not leaked yet...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Yeah, I always thought it would be cool to have a machine that ran both, but never realized at the time how impressive the integration Apple created was, with the ability to copy and paste across the two environments. I considered buying a new CPU, when it originally didn't work, but think I'm...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Awesome, that's good to hear. I'll certainly check the CD ROM. No CD caddy, so I'll need to grab one off eBay, and the case looked in rough shape, but I'm hoping it's mostly just really dirty. Will post pictures when it arrives. I may be lucky and the person may simply not know that you...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

I recently picked up a non-working Macintosh TV that is not in the best shape. I'm hoping a good cleaning will restore the black plastic to a respectable condition. However, the CRT has a scratch on it, and I'm wondering if the 14" Trinitron is shared with other LC / Performa models. I have...

    SE/30 Micron GrayScale issues

Gotcha. I may have missed that in your post. I wonder if you can figure out what part of the Exceed board deals with the vertical sweep and maybe replace the components in that portion of the board?

    SE/30 Micron GrayScale issues

FYI, I received my new U2 chips from Mouser today, swapped out the chip and the video is working again. The part number is SN74LS38N and here is a link if you want to give it a shot. https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/595-SN74LS38N

Diagonal lines on Macintosh Plus (Solved)

So, quick update. I actually received my Mouser shipment today and decided to swap out U2 as that was a recommendation I had seen for similar issues. Put in a new IC from mouser, fired up the Plus, and my picture is back! The geometry is all messed up from my adjustments, but I now get the...

Massive Vintage Apple Haul in Idaho

Yeah, I've heard the power connector on these is prone to losing its connection. I'd start there.

Diagonal lines on Macintosh Plus (Solved)

I do. If I swap in a working board from another machine the image is fine. Although I'm a bit nervous doing stuff around the high voltage stuff on the analog board. Reading the voltages for the logic board is something I've done. What specifically should I be looking for?

Diagonal lines on Macintosh Plus (Solved)

No, no disk icon or desktop. However, it appears to be loading from disk (according to the lights on my FloppyEMU) so it feels as though it is booting.

Diagonal lines on Macintosh Plus (Solved)

I actually re-soldered all 3 J connectors, as this board came from a machine that would power on with no image, which was fixed when I reflowed a couple of noticeably cracked solder joints. So to be safe, I removed the solder from the connectors and re-applied fresh solder to all the pins. I...

Diagonal lines on Macintosh Plus (Solved)

I'm kind of shocked on doing research into this one. I've found several instances of people reporting this issue on various forums (reddit, 68kmla, etc.) and so far none have fixed the problem. Some just stopped messaging, others said they put the machine up for auction / parts, but I haven't...

    SE/30 Micron GrayScale issues

On the Plus, there is no adjustment on the flyback, so I'm guessing the G2 voltage is the cut off voltage controlled by R53. I could be wrong, but I didn't see any other adjustment on the flyback itself. And it made no difference. I also re-soldered all the pins on the connectors to the yoke...
