BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Good idea, Bruce. I have one on order and I’ll share my results.

    Source for RAM?

Haha, yes @Kai Robinson! I should have been clearer and said “build your own” 16MB SIMMs

    Source for RAM?

I’ve used Memory Masters via eBay for my classic Macintosh memory needs with no issues. The roll-your-own solution that @Kai Robinson mentioned is very tempting, if only there were 16 MB SIMMS available….

For all the Color Classic FANS out there...

I have a Mystic fan upgrade on my future to-do list in a few weeks. I also ordered a spicy and look forward to some spicy overclocking goodness.

    2008 iMac 24” Restoration Journey

Regarding the GPU bake solution, that is targeted to a particular subset of iMacs with specific GPUs in the 2009-2011 era, right? My 2008 iMac shows no signs of graphics problems necessitating a bake. I'm wondering if the blank screen problem that @KingDingus is describing is due to another...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Sure, @eric. I attached a couple of photos. As you can see, the lip on a Centris 650 is rather thick, about 1/2 inch. The BlueSCSI case notch is not big enough to allow the BlueSCSI to plug into the SCSI port. I included a pic with the BlueSCSI case removed, which shows no problem. I figure...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I wedged the assembled board at an angle starting from the back, and avoided the problems noted in the previous posts. My only minor issue is the same as the SCSI2SD 5.5 in its case - for both, there is inadequate clearance on the bottom front to plug into the external SCSI port on a Centris...

What is the thickness of RAM SIMMs (30 pins)

I just measured some 4 MB 30-pin SIMMS with calipers and got between 1.11 and 1.24 mm, for what it is worth.

    2008 iMac 24” Restoration Journey

I have one of these, an iMac8,1 (24-inch Early 2008) with an Intel Core 2 Duo running at 2.8 GHz that was our family’s daily driver until each member moved up to individual MacBook Airs. Its latest official macOS is El Cap, but recently I used one of DosDude’s patchers to put Catalina on it...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Today I assembled my first DB-25 version of the 1.1 BlueSCSI. Went together like a charm, and after troubleshooting my inadequate soldering job on the microSD socket pins, it worked perfectly. Thanks @eric for the new design - it's perfect for the "sneaker net" between my Mac mini and my...

SE/30 Horizontal lines due to an oversight

After my first handful of surface mounted chips didn't work after initial replacement, I developed the habit to brute-force check every pair of neighboring pins for those hard-to-spot bridges. When I get a continuity beep, I double-check the schematics in case the neighboring pins are actually...

    Getting a Macintosh SE Online

Ha, yes. I‘ve had a RaSCSI kit for over a month now, waiting for a Raspberry Pi for it at a more reasonable price than what I see currently.

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I purchased a version 1.0 Blue SCSI kit from Tom Barber, and he was kind enough to send me the 1.1 kit. Two thumbs up to @eric for the redesign. It went together like a charm and worked the first time. The layout is perfect!

Advice re: What to do with MacBook2,1 (Late 2006)--Worth Repairing?

I ended up using OS X Patcher to install El Cap on the MacBook 2,1. I was unable to get MacPostFactor to work. I’m curious if anyone else has tried MacPostFactor recently, but at least OS X Patcher worked for me today.

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Not just you, I had the same problem. I switched to SheepShaver which can mount .hda files directly but cannot use the older Mac OS versions such as 6.0.8 and 7.1. I’ll try the .img renaming trick in Basilisk tonight.

Advice re: What to do with MacBook2,1 (Late 2006)--Worth Repairing?

I recently restored a Black MacBook 2,1 simply for the nostalgic factor, not to get any returns on the investment. Back in the day, I had a White MacBook 1,1 that I used as a daily driver for six years and although I really liked the Black MacBook I didn't get one at the time. The Black...

    Replacement Memory for Compact Mac?

For what it is worth, I've used modules from Memory Masters on eBay for several SE/30s, a Color Classic, a Mystic upgraded Color Classic, and a Centris 650. All have worked just fine and I have no complaints.
