Thanks for letting me know. I'll follow up with the person from that twitter thread. Perhaps they got mixed up about what driver they used. There are a LOT of drivers for the various Lapis cards.

I messaged the person who created this Twitter thread showing a card with the same FPGA working with a VGA display. They recommended using the LapisColor / ProColorServer 8•16 LC driver available here with System 7.5. I set up a clean install of 7.5 and added that extension, but get the error...

I found the specs for the Ehman Full Page Display in the February 1991 issue of MacUser. It says 640x480 75Hz Vertical Scan and 68.85kHz Horizontal scan. That doesn't line up with what I measured on the card. Would out of spec caps have an impact on HSYNC/VSYNC on a display card?

An early 1991 ad for their two page display says 70Hz, but I haven't been able to find something similar for their Full Page Display.

@ScutBoy Thanks for the info. I found this ad for Ehman monitors in the December 1990 MacWorld which claims they had higher refresh rates than Apple or Radius, but don't specify what those rates are. Curious.

I've tried several of the Lapis (and Mobius) control panels posted to the archive sites in both System 6.0.8 and 7.1 and didn't achieve any better results. The Lapis Dual Screen 2.E control panel drives the card to output 640 X 870. HSYNC is 60kHz on DB-9 Pin 8 and VSYNC is 65Hz on DB-9 pin 9...

Thanks to a tip from @Zane Kaminski I've made some progress. I ended up taking out the logic board and running it from a SE with display so I could see what was going on. Installed the Lapis Dual Screen 2.E control panel. That control panel displayed a single option: 'Ehman Full Page Display'...

They were a toss-in when I bought a bunch of Macs from someone clearing out their garage in 2016. Yeah they sold empty cases and full system bundles with a display per old ads.

In 2016 I got a couple of MicroMac SE prototypes and haven't done anything with them since. I've started to dig into them and am trying to get them to display video on any external display. I don't own a generic Full Page Display which is what they were likely meant to connect to. I'll use this...

This is very clever. Thanks for the tips. If you have to do a bunch, I could see making a jig out of the rod with a notch on either end to hold the cable so you don't have to use the rubber bands. Did the wood rods you used warp or swell from the water? If so I wonder if acrylic or aluminum...

@jdmcs where did you read these models only support sync on green? The IIci Technical Procedures doc is a little vague but seems to indicate it might support different types of sync signals. I didn't see anything in there stating that only sync on green is supported, but maybe that's implied?

.511mF (millifarad) = 511uF (microfarad) All capacitors have a tolerance. These are probably 20%. For a 470uF capacitor that'd mean 376uF—564uF would be considered OK. Capacitance isn't the only measure of capacitor health though. Ideally you'd be able to check ESR, dissipation factor etc...

The Hakko one you linked to does not seem worth $100 IMO. This Kotto extractor is the dinky one I was using before. It seems comparable to the Hakko, but is half the price.

Love the microscope solution. Very creative and super nice to have the ability to shove it out of the way. The boom stand means it's always in the way of something. The fume extractor solution seems better than a single desktop extractor in that size, but it'd be good to know what should be...
