SE/30 gray screen with cursor post recap when SCSI drive attached

Nothing obvious yet but yeah I figure it’s either a broken nearby trace or some failed component. A lot of testing ahead 🥴

SE/30 gray screen with cursor post recap when SCSI drive attached

I have a board that will boot okay to a floppy, but will be stuck on a gray screen with movable cursor if a SCSI drive is attached. I removed and cleaned under and later swapped out the SCSI IC and checked continuity for most of the SCSI and sound circuit. The one odd thing I've noticed is that...

    Dead Mac classic repair?

A good first step would probably be to test the voltages. @Branchus has a good video on how to test and adjust if it's just slightly out. Your Mac will almost certainly need the capacitors on the logic board replaced and the analog board may need new caps or other repairs too. I've had to...

    Multimeter recommendations: auto-ranging?

I've used a Fluke 110 for many years and have been quite happy with it. @davidg5678 fwiw, this model does beep when testing diodes. The 112/112 include AC/DC current tests.

SE/30 Horizontal lines due to an oversight

I recently recapped a SE/30. After cleaning, it booted to a gray screen with cursor and nothing else if a SCSI drive was attached. It booted okay if only a floppy was connected. As a matter of troubleshooting I removed the SCSI IC, cleaned underneath and put it back. Afterwards, it was then...

    Macintosh Diagnostics software tools

I’m not familiar with MacEKG. I mostly use Snooper to do burnin diagnostics after recaps. MacCheck is another option.

    Compact Mac Caps List

@eric in lieu of sizing for every cap, it may be helpful to have a general note to say that most of the physically larger (ex. 47uF, 100uF) SMD caps can be replaced with tantalum/poly size C and the smaller ones (ex. 1uF, 10uF) are size B. You can get away with going up or down a size but I...

Macintosh SE mounts floppy 3 times

That is super weird. Do all three instances behave the same way? Can you interact with all of them? It sounds like you’ve already tried different RAM and ROM. Maybe it’s a Video RAM issue?

Macintosh SE mounts floppy 3 times

Have you already tried cleaning the IWM chip and socket with contact cleaner? Do the drives you connected work okay on another Mac? Have you tried other disks? Which have you tried with these drives?

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

@reallyrandy there is a side project “MagicSD” which allows you to mount SCSI2SD images in Basilisk but it’s a lot fussier to setup compared to BlueSCSI. https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/magicsd-for-scsi2sd-owners.38576/

And since there aren't many nice photos of this display online, here's a quick photoshop cleanup of it.

Radius Artica Display with custom DVI cable

I went to power it up, but the AC adapter was dead. I cracked it open and found the capacitors were all out of spec so I've ordered some new ones. In case anyone in the future needs to recap this adapter, here's what's inside. C22: 68uF 400v; 18mm Dia; 32mm L; 85° C2 C13 C14: 470uF 16v; 8mm...

Radius Artica Display with custom DVI cable

I've been looking for one of these displays for years. Today was my lucky day! This is a very rare Radius branded version of the SGI 1600SW. It's 1600x1024 and would normally have an OpenLDI connector. The person I got this from got it from a SGI engineer who made a custom DVI cable for it...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

@eric I did look through there but must be missing something. Which folder or file has the bootstrap stuff? The ones I opened were al blank. Thanks!

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

The DB-25 has been working out great. It's a lot easier to manage disk images and transfer data back and forth to a host system via Basilisk compared to SCSI2SD. As someone mentioned above, it'd be nice to have pre-made image with various utilities already installed. It can be tough to bootstrap...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I was pretty sure I did get it in that slot, but will take another look. Regardless, it snapped in place and is square after trimming those pins. Thanks for the tip!

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I received a DB-25 kit today from @eric today and got right to putting it together. Assembly went great, but the device would not sit low enough in the enclosure. The front set of DB-25 pins were pressed against part of the case. After snipping those down, everything fit okay. I've been using a...
