[Idea] Macintosh 68k Programming Study Group?

For ResEdit, download the ResEdit Docs. For programming, start with Think (LightSpeed) C or Pascal matched to your intended build machine and OS + ResEdit. C is probably the best modern starting point. Use Inside Macintosh for info about using the Mac Toolbox. Or, if you are new to programming...

[Idea] Macintosh 68k Programming Study Group?

I'm in a hurry...but sounds like fun! You just have to make sure you have the right tools and interfaces for the desired target machines. Think C and Think Pascal were always good. There is also the Think Reference, which is a handy toolbox reference. There were major changes between System 6.x...

Found a Neat Mod From Back in The Day in My 128k

Yeah...I guess it is "Killy" - corrected above in my post. The one SuperMac used was also labeled as a "Chabin" clip, I think, but that could have been the manufacturer. It came with a special gripping tool to help flex it on to the processor. Installation issues occurred because the dealers (or...

Found a Neat Mod From Back in The Day in My 128k

SuperMac offered 2 early memory expansions for the initial Macs. For the 128K and 512K Macs (but mostly the 512's), there was the SuperMac Enhance board. If the Enhance had an E6000 PAL upgrade on it, it could go to 4Mb. Tech Support shipped the E6000 PAL to earlier rev Enhance customers who...

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

I found some A/UX Development docs today (loose-leaf version) and the 1.0b development tools disk. Probably enough for someone to do some damage. n.b. A/UX requires a video card that correctly implements the Video Reset control/slot call, since A/UX calls it during the startup process (and is...

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

For me, the evolution of Mac programming languages and use depended on the purpose, but it generally tracked the use and growth in language development over time as the personal computer took over. Initially, Pascal was very common and shipped with the early Macs -- MacPascal was the evolution...

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

It is called "The Apple II Guide" -- A complete resource for users of Apple II computers -- Fall 1990 I searched -- you can find it here: https://archive.org/details/The_Apple_II_Guide_Fall_1990

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

I just skimmed it - it was very high-level. It is from Fall of 1990 and opens with a letter from Woz and some historical perspective. The back 3rd is a resource directory / listing. There is a section on "understanding technical information," including high-level blurbs about the OS, etc. There...

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

Meh - I found the Apple II Guide. It is a very high level user guide - not too useful unless you want to find out how to pick up ProDOS in a bar and have weird Apple II babies.

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

Historically, APDA(Log) was external to Apple and came into being in the early-mid '80s as a resource for technical info. Apple eventually acquired them and centralized developer resources in the late '80s, along with creating MacDTS - Developer Tech Support...and the MacDTS Tech Notes to help...

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

It might be possible. I have an APDA Catalogue from the inital QuickTime era. And I found IM III, but no V or A/UX.

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

Yes...and...APDA is Apple Programmers/Developers Association. As an Apple Developer in the '90s, you would order software and tech literature and get piles of stuff - disks, books, binders, etc.

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

I found some Gen 1 stuff, but I am missing IM III and IM V, so A/UX may be with them in a box somewhere, or I don't have it.

    Building A/UX Device Drivers

Well...no promises. I think I remember seeing it in the '90s. It may have been with my Gen 1 Inside Mac books. But, they are in storage somewhere near the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Good job on getting it to work.
