I posted this question on FaceBook (Vintage Apple Macintosh Enthusiasts group) 5 days ago and not a single person replied, so let's see if the amazingly knowledgable folks here at TinkerDifferent can do better!
Do any of you have experience using any of the following Keystron RAM SIMMs in your...
Fellow Color Classic Mystic lovers, wouldn't you like to play Marathon, Dark Forces, have more workspace in Photoshop, and access all those amazing CD-ROMs that otherwise won't run on your 512x384 screen? In this new video, I review 3 hardware methods to achieve a higher 640x480 pixel...
日本語を大好きな人たちへ!
I just uploaded the full version of JapanEase to Macintosh Garden:
https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/japanease-full-version-vol1-vol2
I purchased this new in 1994, just prior to moving to Japan. I can't find the documentation or original disks. I simply extracted the stacks...
It has just struck midnight here in Japan. We are now celebrating the arrival of 2022. 🥳
I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to all of you who have kindly joined TinkerDifferent and make it better each and every day with each and every post. Despite COVID and all the negatives...
My mid-2015 15" MBP Retina is now considered a very low end Mac, but it's still my daily driver. My left speaker has been bad for about a year, and recently I had enough and decided to swap it out. I replaced the other speaker too since you have to teardown the whole machine to replace...
Speedometer experts, perhaps the obvious is eluding me, but how can I easily MERGE separate Results files?
I have been spending hours doing benchmarks and saving results as separate files, but now when I try to compare with the main results files (which has multiple Macs inside) I can't because...
I came across this MacRumors thread from 2016 today:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ssd-in-a-g4-cube-heres-a-bracket.1981819/
Any of you have experience with 120GB SSDs in the G4 Cube? I'm curious because one of my 120GB IDE drives died this week so I am mulling a more modern alternative...
I'm rather surprised I'm the first person to ever make a Macintosh Garden request! Oh well, it must start with someone, right?
The Garden currently has versions 1.7 and 1.9 of Clockometer, but Archive.org shows there was a newer version 2.0.3 too...
Keep your beloved CC cool, semi-quiet and with slightly less current consumption too!
Currently, the VGA Mod (with discussion about the 13" Hi-rez mod) and Spicy O'Clock Overclocking videos are in the works!
This to me is nothing short of fantastic, and I wish to humbly thank @Kay K.M.Mods for so graciously having done the conversion while filming, which is not easy to do. If you are as impressed with his skills as I am, please be sure to let him know what you think!
Since it's Thanksgiving in the US today, I should express my thanks for Panasonic's low-ESR OS-CON capacitors. They're the ideal choice when recapping of the LC575 "Mystic" motherboard, especially when you upgrade the CPU and/or overclock.
Enjoy that turkey, friends! 🦃
I've been using MG Chemicals flux, with built-in syringe and plunger. It has been great. But with so many people constantly raving about AMTECH 559, I decided to give that a try.
Sadly, only the Chinese knock-off "559" is sold here in Japan that I can see, so I purchased 559 from Amazon USA...
Spotted this article today:
https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/11/17/apple-will-allow-customers-to-repair-iphones-and-macs-in-2022
This won't help folks who have "obsolete" Macs since I believe Apple only offers parts for about 7 years. There are older Intel Macs like the late 2009 27" iMac...
"Latest Profile Posts" in the right sidebar are not as intuitive as they could be. Every time I see photos posted there, I instinctively click on the photos, only to be disappointed that the associated thread doesn't open due to the lack of a link. It would be nice to click a pic to open its...
I've got an Apple-branded Quantum Fireball 1280S 1.2GB 3.5" SCSI drive that won't mount. If I change the SCSI ID via jumpers, SCSI Probe shows the correct ID every time. But SCSI Probe won't mount it, nor will any other Utility app I've tried. Most utility apps (Lido, SilverLining, etc.)...
The 2nd video in my ongoing Color Classic series is now public.
I posted benchmarks from MacBench 3, Speedometer 4 and Norton System Info 3.5.3.
Much more to come!
I recently acquired a Color Classic and was itching to do a video on it. I plan to do a series of videos based on my experiences with it, but the first video I just finished today centers on CRT adjustments. That's because, well, the display wasn't adjusted!
As of the time of this...
I came across this Wall Street Journal article by Johnny Ive today. I appreciated the warm sentiments Ive shared.
I have always thought of Steve Jobs as a man greatly misunderstood, perhaps inspired by the fact I myself am often misunderstood. I sometimes say or write in a deliberately...
While BMOW no longer sells the original ROM-inator, thanks to @KayMMods in Tokyo who kindly sold me his spare kit, I was able to build this fun and useful mod. It's fully reversible and really adds something special to the earliest compact Macs too. Best of all, Steve C. and Kay came to an...
