I can happily report that after tensioning the springs on the monitor hinge everything is working great!
I will be posting the second aluminum piece I had created by shapeway for sale at cost $62.77 US in the North America Trading Post Section of the forums. Just be aware that it will likely...
Hi Folks!
So a friend asked me to take a look at a Mac IIsi he had purchased a while back. Unfortunately the board has been damaged by a previous recapping job gone bad. There were multiple missing pads and trace breaks when he brought it to me so I told him I would do my best to try to fix...
I have been using the Matrix in the Macintosh SE_30 Schematics redrawn with Matrix file that CayMac Vintage linked me to work on my battery bombed SE/30. You could check the connections for the data lines and address lines to make sure everything is connected correctly.
In my case...
Ended up being $125.55US with shipping for two units printed in aluminum.
Assuming it's just a spring tension issue and the unit itself isn't at fault I'll sell the second one for cost and try to recoup some money.
Alright folks I was finally out to my brother in law's place and we did the final assembly on this version of the part.
Here's my impressions of this version:
1) Depending on the print its going to fit either just right or be every slightly too tight. I bought two pieces from Shapeways using...
Just in case anyone else has the same question I did; yes all you need to do is add a wire jumper to W12 and the analog board will run at 120V instead of 240V. I finally just added the wire and tested the voltage. Mac boots up fine now.
Hey there,
So recently someone asked me to racap a couple macs for him. No problem there but he also asked me to figure out why his one Mac Plus wouldn't turn on properly.
As soon as he brought it over it was easy to see the issue, on the back of the unit in clear text was written 220-240V well...
Will try that next and then go through the cheat sheet again to make sure everything is still connected after the removal and cleaning of the sound chip.
Yes CayMac showed me this one and I originally used it to diagnose and fix the video issue. I've gone through it for the audio section as well and nothing appears to be broken. I'll do another pass on it now that I've removed, cleaned, and reattached the sound chip to make sure nothing is...
Just arrived from Shapeways. Bit rough in texture but not too bad. Now I just need to get to my brother-in-laws place so he can help me finish them up!
Went through the matrix and checked every line to the sound chip but no breaks that I could find. I took the sound chip off, cleaned it, and put it back on and now I'm getting a chirping/squealing noise at start up. I can hear it on the speaker and if I plug in the headphones I can hear it...
Caps are all replaced. System was completely dead before I replaced the caps. Still testing traces hope I find another break to repair otherwise I'll try jumping pin 2 and 4 on the audio jack see if the jack is stuck.
Last resort I'll start pulling off chips cleaning and replacing.
I have made progress!
Thanks to CayMacVintage who provided me with a matrix of address paths I was able to find a bad trace between UD8 and UI8 and another on UE8 which has taken me from video to clear video. Only issue now is the sound. I've been toning out the paths from sound chip and so far...
You would need to modify the file. The hinge on these Cinema Displays (and the 17 inch too) is wider than the hinge on the 15 inch. Once I have my aluminium piece back from ShapeWays I might tinker with the file and make different sizes available. Assuming mine works lol
Hey folks!
I picked up a 40 dollar SE/30 that needs a little TLC. It was completely dead but after recapping I get part of a video signal. Seems like some lines are corrupted.
I found one bad trace going to ue8 and repaired it and now the video looks like this (see photo) it's improving but...
Here's what Shapeways says about their process:
https://www.shapeways.com/materials/aluminum#:~:text=Aluminum%203D%20printing%20relies%20on,high%20electrical%20and%20thermal%20conductivity.
I've submitted it to Shapeway to be created out of aluminium. My brother in law has the tools to thread aluminium.
Won't receive it until March 1st but the resin piece fit well so I'm hoping the aluminium one will as well.
