Hey everyone! We've been having issues with being bombarded by forum spam bots. As a temporary measure we're disabling registration for around 72 hours. Anyone wanting to join up as a legitimate user, please have patience! :)
Another option for your consideration is to run the Timelord time server that is included with Netatalk on a Linux/*BSD system, and then use the Tardis extension on your Mac to sync the system time on bootup. This bypasses entirely the need to bother with the control panel's date picker. As an...
AFP works over TCP/IP as well, with the right versions of the network stack and AppleShare client. I've gotten it to work with 7.1 and later. However, your SE's 68000 CPU may be a limiting factor here, since Open Transport, for one, requires a later instruction set (030 I think).
@Byte Knight That is a great question! My executive summary would be something like:
Macproxy is more compatible with the modern web and better at retaining and displaying valuable content, but the tradeoff is that you will often see a bunch of ugly looking headers and footers (e.g. exploded...
@fehervaria Yes, my primary environment is Raspbian Bullseye, so I can vouch for this particular version of the OS. So far, every version of Raspbian I have tested comes with the appletalk kernel module out of the box. If your distro doesn't come with the appletalk module, you can easily...
TL;DR; There is a new fork called Netatalk 2.x that integrates all the community patches since the 2.2.6 release, which works out of the box on modern distros. Grab the latest stable release from GitHub.
While researching Netatalk integration with RaSCSI it struck me just how painful it was to...
Bumping this thread to mention that I cut another three releases in December that improves compatibility with the modern web, and introduces a few advanced command line options to further customize the proxy.
The most important change is that it no longer mangles the layout of www.frogfind.com...
How heavy was the cap leakage (and battery leakage) on the logic board? I would start looking for broken traces or heavily corroded IC legs.
The lack of a startup chime could mean that the audio circuitry itself is damaged, which is quite common effect of cap juice corrosion. Or it could mean...
It finally arrived from Korea! If you have small hands like me, I can warmly recommend the above. The analog stick and action buttons are all very responsive, and have a great tactile feel to them. While it's not evident from photos, it has a thick felt-like bottom for a relatively comfortable...
Thanks! I guess I could go your route and mount it on the drive bay; OR, make the leads even longer and put it on top of the space for a Bar Code between the sound chip and the PSU connector. I kind of like the idea of having the battery holder integrated onto the logic board.
I've come up with a solution that I think is pretty neat. Sharing here so that it may help others.
Looking at the schematics, I had the theory that pulling the 3V from between the two batteries in the off-the-shelf 2x CR2032 battery holder would have the same effect as the original battery...
I happen to have one of these holders, and I'm not sure yours are different but mine actually has space for two CR2032s in serial = 6V. So it got me thinking: Can one of these holders replace both original 1/2 AAs?
So tracking down the original Mac II schematics, at a glance the two batteries...
As someone waiting for their first ever Mac II to be delivered, I would definitely be in the market for one of these battery boards if someone starts making them!
In the meantime, I've ordered two regular 1/2 AA holders from retrofixes.com -- this product has worked great in my SE so far, and...
At a related note, do you all keep the bottom RF shield installed on your IIc's? I tested all the contact points with the logic board, and everything seems to be grounded properly without the shield there. In my case, the shield itself is in good shape, but the paper sheet that insulates it from...
Thanks for the advice! This is what I assumed, but you never know what secondary purpose a component may have (such as the RF shield acting as the ground plane for SCSI/audio etc. in certain mid-90s Macs.)
I had extremely low expectations for the quality of the IIc keyboard after hearing all...
I just ordered a batch of dodgy chips from China, but if you have certified good ones to spare I'd happily take you up on that offer! Let me shoot you a private message.
Yesterday a quick googling led to MECC Computer Inspector as a diagnostics program that can help with RAM troubleshooting...
My IIc's keyboard comes with this dual layer of rubbery sheets inbetween the keycaps and switches. A lot of the 'mushy' feel of typing on the keyboard was due to this thing, and removing it made the tactile response from the switches significantly better in my opinion.
Do you all keep the spill...
Great to see so much IIc love! I just got my first ever IIc delivered in the mail today, and I *think* it has bad RAM, although it's hard to say for sure due to ROM v255. Do you have advice on good replacement chips to procure?
