    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

@niek has written up how he was able to fix the issue thanks to a great benefactor who sent over 2 ROM0 boards to him to analyze: https://www.applesqueezer.com/post/rare-sound-issue-for-early-boards-fixed

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

I think the bodge wires are the most visible proof you have a ROM0 board. The board revision number is under the CPU if you really want to make sure. Again, relying on my 30+ year memory, I feel like the ROM01 upgrade was something we were notified about and we brought our IIgs in to the Apple...

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

iirc @Action Retro got his hands on a //e to IIgs upgrade kit:

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

I think the //e upgrade boards would have both the keyboard connector and the //e PSU connector (as @KennyPowers link shows above). My IIgs also doesn't have the //e keyboard connector installed (just the pads). I wonder if they shipped out a number of IIgs machines that used "leftover" //e...

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

My hunch is that the ROM0 to ROM1 upgrade was simply swapping out the ROM chip, and that the bodges were done at the factory for the ROM0 boards. I say this, since my recollection of the ROM upgrade was that it was quickly handled by the Apple authorized retailer at the time, when I took my IIgs...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Another progress report. Sorry, I don't have any photos: * Recapped the analog board and PSU board (again, thanks to @JDW for his video on the latter, particularly with how to deal with the extensive use of hot glue). I used the Console5 kits to do the recapping. * Swapped out the exhaust fan...

    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

A follow up here. @niek worked further on the ROM0 board issues (the Sound Interrupt errors came back for me), and provided a new core to try out. I finally got time today to try it out and it seems to have resolved the major sound timing issues as well as working with the Booti. Thanks again...

    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

Ok, I couldn't wait until the weekend. I installed the Core 5 update from my FloppyEmu. After fixing an issue with the hard disk image on the FloppyEmu, I booted it up. I did not encounter the dreaded "Sound Interrupt" errors at all this time around. And while before, any sound / music playback...

    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

Hello Niek! Glad to see you here. I've not tried the update yet, I've been fairly busy with other stuff, but I'll try to give it a shot next weekend. Thanks for your hard work!

    AppleSqueezer GS and ROM0 boards

Update: Thanks to Niek's hard work, the latest core for the AppleSqueezer GS fixes the issues those of us with ROM0 boards were having. Hello! During the pandemic, I retrieved my old Apple IIgs from my mom's house and decided to tinker on it. I managed to get more RAM, a Booti, and an Uthernet...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Another visual update. I believe I have all the components on the Reloaded board: You can see I also put back in what was left of the bracket, since it will be needed to provide a ground connection to the rest of the chassis. What's left to do? Plenty: * Inspect the rest of the circuit boards...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

I'm planning on just spray painting it with some clear rustoleum, I just need to figure out what I need to keep masked so the grounding still works.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Do you have a part number for the filters? I probably need to replace at least one of the ones I took off of the old board.

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

An update: I managed to break one of the legs on the SND IC trying to remove it from the original board, so that just got added to my order from UTsource. The ROMs were not recoverable, and I'm waiting on an EPROM programmer to get the PLCC ROM replacements in place. The hakko soldering pump...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Thank you. I likely ordered them before your BOM was complete, and didn't double check that I was ordering the correct packaging.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Hello, Today I received the 26LS32 ICs from UTSource (quick service as usual), but sadly, these were the "wrong" kind, as in they aren't DIP package, but the SOP16 package. Could I use an adapter (like this one) for these? (Edit: Upon further review, I don't think these would physically fit...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

Ah, sorry I should've been more clear. It's an issue with the desoldering iron itself. When it's time to vacuum some solder up, it's not doing the vacuuming part. Hopefully should be solvable, I just need to sit down with it and its fine manual to troubleshoot.

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

FWIW, one trick I've seen (from the Hand Tool Rescue channel on Youtube) is if you have some parts where the rust remover isn't going to reach for soaking, you can soak a paper towel and wrap the parts that stick up out of the rust remover, and make sure part of the paper towel is in the rust...

A battery bombed SE stored in a garage for years

An update after this weekend's work. First most of the passive components are in And some more progress: At this point, I'm waiting on the ROM and SWIM sockets, and I need to troubleshoot my desoldering pump to see why it's not properly pumping.

The brand was "Blaster", but it should work the same as Evaporust: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Blaster-1-Gal-Metal-Rescue-Rust-Remover-Bath-128-MR/312780997
