Ok, I couldn't wait until the weekend. I installed the Core 5 update from my FloppyEmu. After fixing an issue with the hard disk image on the FloppyEmu, I booted it up. I did not encounter the dreaded "Sound Interrupt" errors at all this time around. And while before, any sound / music playback...

I'm planning on just spray painting it with some clear rustoleum, I just need to figure out what I need to keep masked so the grounding still works.

Do you have a part number for the filters? I probably need to replace at least one of the ones I took off of the old board.

An update: I managed to break one of the legs on the SND IC trying to remove it from the original board, so that just got added to my order from UTsource. The ROMs were not recoverable, and I'm waiting on an EPROM programmer to get the PLCC ROM replacements in place. The hakko soldering pump...

Ah, sorry I should've been more clear. It's an issue with the desoldering iron itself. When it's time to vacuum some solder up, it's not doing the vacuuming part. Hopefully should be solvable, I just need to sit down with it and its fine manual to troubleshoot.

FWIW, one trick I've seen (from the Hand Tool Rescue channel on Youtube) is if you have some parts where the rust remover isn't going to reach for soaking, you can soak a paper towel and wrap the parts that stick up out of the rust remover, and make sure part of the paper towel is in the rust...

An update after this weekend's work. First most of the passive components are in And some more progress: At this point, I'm waiting on the ROM and SWIM sockets, and I need to troubleshoot my desoldering pump to see why it's not properly pumping.
