Working on a SuperDrive that has no signs of life whatsoever, pulled from a G4 MDD. I confirmed it is receiving the proper voltages from the PSU.
After pulling it apart, there is one IC (pictured here) that looks as if it's burned/melted. Quite odd, as everything else inside the drive looks...
Aside from occasional and sporadic issues with the motherboard/display/trackpad etc., these machines actually seem to be on the more reliable side if they have not experienced major damage (e.g., drop/fall) and have been stored in hospitable conditions.

Great shots, thanks for sharing. My recollection is that they kept a similar design for the G3 Kanga packaging, before switching to the much-cleaner green/white aesthetic for the Wallstreet (the earliest PBG3 box I have). I dig the vibe.
