Fast EtherNet NIC on FireWire interface? Possible, Practical, Silly Notion?

Thinking in terms of TAM/Gazelle and 6360/6400/Alchemy machines. We've got more FW equipped cards working in the problematic TAM of late, so wondering if 100bT or Gigabit external NIC might be an interesting tinkertoy for the boffin crowd?

How much of the 128K/512K hardware has been reverse engineered?

Thanks, it's been two years since the first one in June, and a few months ago for the second one. Crappy old CPVC pipes in an apartment building, Spindleresque plastics used for hot AND cold lines. My water heater went after I moved in 11 years ago and was likely here a lot longer than that...

How much of the 128K/512K hardware has been reverse engineered?

Thanks , Kai, been looking at that topic listing and been excited about it having been done! Right now I'm trying to get on track to have the flood destroyed missing carpet replaced in my second bedroom, so just randomly tossing my crazy notions about here or there in all the usual places...

"Budget" conscious Trinocular Microscope & Fume Extraction

Back on the main thread of my alternate swing out setup tangent: Lots of great hardware left over for clamping something to something else somewhere. Three position thickness adjustment, the steel's 5mm and threaded rod is about 7.5mm so it's very strong. Me likes leftovers. 😁

"Budget" conscious Trinocular Microscope & Fume Extraction

There should be pics of it and the matching HackHutch, if not the very cool headboard that rounds out the trio. Good to hear there's no vibration induced by the fans. I'll have to set something up soon as I also need fume extraction for ABS cement fumes this year. Been putting off a crazy...

"Budget" conscious Trinocular Microscope & Fume Extraction

@Drake Glad you like it, took a look at the panel stands at work yesterday. They've got a similar mounting setup for the VESA end of things, but couldn't tell if they have the bolt down mounting option. For anyone planning to tinker with any setup like this or just mounting a display to a desk...

"Budget" conscious Trinocular Microscope & Fume Extraction

Can't wait to get one, 18 months to go yet before Social Security at the max on top of pittance I'm making now. Be that as it may, I've already got what I think might be the ultimate stand for this kind of thing: Remove the bolt holding the silver. vertical angle bracket to bolt up a far...

    2023 PowerPC Challenge!

Does doing all but browsing under OS9 on DA, QS, and a couple of G3 'Books when they're down for twenty years count for anything?

    Toilet Running, no visible float

Where's the toilet and what are the local/national standards? Here in the US, there are almost universal replacement part kits available for under 30 bucks that restore a toilet to brand new condition other than the ceramics. I like the kit that includes a flush lever that fits the vast...

    Toilet Running, no visible float

Pic would help one searched online would be best. Fill valves go after a few years and are very easily replaced. In US or elsewhere? Local folks would be of help if the assembly is different standard. Some valves have a box at top with a tiny float inside. I prefer the cylindrical float. just...

SE accelerator - what am I looking at?

Mobius made VidCards, that seems to be what this is with very simple 2x acceleration built in. 1990 is kinda late for producing something as rudimentary as this appears to be. I guess it could make a decent word processor level machine in that time frame likely with a cheap TTL monitor...

About to get the MacEffects treatment

Loving it, great job! Disco ball and spotlights could be a next step? Finally found the perfect Christmas ornament string of six 1.5" balls. I love my hazy case, it's just perfect for a rear projection light show. Next for the battery operated internal motor, controller board, led spotlights...

Crazy notion? G3 Accelerator built into enlarged memory card in 5300ce?

Yeah, that would have been really cool in the 'birds, but not much cubic available for PBX and the G3 even if it could work. More chance of getting it to work in the PB190, I'd think? Folks look upon it as a step down from the Blackbirds when it's actually a (hobbled for the low end) step up to...

Crazy notion? G3 Accelerator built into enlarged memory card in 5300ce?

If possible, would be interesting, thoughts? Best choices for advanced, very high on board cache CPUs available have very specific solder side component requirements. Such makes them compatible only with the CPU card of the 1400. Mounting such a CPU underneath an enlarged memory card would seem...

SE accelerator - what am I looking at?

Solder side would be wave soldered with components in place topside. The DIN connector would then be installed afterward, soldered by whatever process on the component side of the board. Closeup pics of a portion of the connector's thruhole pins topside would be good to see. Ought to be some...

    Kitchen demo & remodel

The secret to home improvement . . . don't start. Glad you liked the over range shelving suggestion for over fridge/next to pantry space. Depending on the support requirements, I've go a slick hanger bolt/connector nut/threaded rod solution for supporting the front edge from the...

Extreme Systems - Impact 030 Accelerator (LC, LCII)

There's probably a very limited number of ways to tell a CPU to roll over and play dead. ;)

    A takky Mac…..

Found a front panel, there's no power button, just the two volume control buttons and front headphone jack. Power is a remote control function along with volume, CD track +- play/pause, eject, etc. so have at it! ;)

    A takky Mac…..

IIRC the momentary switches are for power on and volume controls, both of which are handled via the IR remote control. Don't need the headphone jack at all. That's what the one on the backplane is for, front mounted jack's only a matter of convenience, break the former out to the rear with...
