Clamshell XGA Mod - Possible on 4MB VRAM models?

If you don't know, it's possible to install a 1024x768 resolution display in an iBook Clamshell with a special LCD cable and an open firmware command to get everything set. I've heard conflicting info on whether this is possible on an original 4MB VRAM model (Blueberry/Tangerine), which happen...

PowerBook 160 Display missing upper corner segment after recap - STAB1 area

Good luck with that. I’ve never heard of anyone attempting that or what it would entail, would be interested to hear if there is a way.

PowerBook 160 Display missing upper corner segment after recap - STAB1 area

Likely a failed driver IC or cap juice corroding the ribbon that goes from the driver board to the glass panel itself.

The PowerBook 3400c's power board is right under the trackpad, and as such heats it up quite a bit after running for a while! Heated trackpads should be a real feature, my fingers can get pretty chilly in the basement, and the trackpad actually can help haha.

    Color classic died :(

Reseat and try different RAM would be my first guess.

    Pismo screen

I can throw a link to it up in resources or as a thread, won't want to copy the table in directly as I'm not done with it yet, and there's some missing info still. Would make it so that it's harder to update otherwise.

    What fuse type is this?

I’ve been planning on rebuilding two PowerBook 500 series battery packs soon, and unfortunately I’ve run into a couple issues. The good news is I have enough good parts to build one working pack. 1 fully intact EMM board and membrane, and an intact fuse. The bad news is the other EMM ribbon is...

    Pismo screen

If you take the display housing apart, let me know the part number of the screen. Would be great for this index I've been assembling: https://macdat.net/extras/powerbooklcdindex.html

    WinBook 486SLC laptop quit posting...

I'm going to update this thread real quick: It "works" now. I haven't recapped the DC board yet, but I do believe I need to. It turns out that the RAM expansion module was improperly seated. I fixed this and it starts again, but after running for a few minutes, it won't boot again if I shut it...

Is newer plastic just as bad as 90s plastic?

I don’t know the next thing about how biodegradable plastics work, but that brings up thoughts of micro plastic issues… those probably don’t though. but yeah, plastic stinks. The one laptop I can sleep easy about is my Latitude CS. Its back display housing is made of magnesium, meaning it won’t...

Some very forceful PC Card Ejection!

I've had a similar thing happen with my iMac G5. It had finished burning a CD for me, then ejected it all the way to the floor.

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

No info on what to probe unfortunately, board-level diagnostics is where my skills reach their limits. I'd just recap the board and then troubleshoot further from there. Your issue a one known to be caused by bad caps.

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

The caps on both my working power boards did also look slightly bulged, probably a sign of age and impending failure. Luckily they don't seem to be leaking (yet), just drying out hopefully? Get them replaced and it may come back. You probably have one or more out of spec power rail due to it...

Beige G3 not reading burned CDs

You could get a cable I’m sure that hooks up to the scsi to sd and the port. I’d say the easiest thing to do if to just pull the hard drive and put it in a newer IDE mac (if you have one) that has USB.
