It could be possible the flat connector cable has developed an open trace. They are designed for a very limited connect/disconnect lifespan.

Right, so my suggestion is to remove it from the IDE chain to eliminate any master/slave conflict it may be having with your SSD, and try the SSD again.

Does your CF adapter and/or your mSATA adapter have a Master/Slave jumper on it? If you completely disconnect the optical drive from the chain, is the disk then recognized? I am guessing when you connect them to your modern machine you are utilizing a USB to single device adapter.

If you think it is dead/stuck, no point in NOT trying to fix it.. There is the baking method and the freezing method, both are debatable in results.

Have you removed the motherboard and looked at the bottom side as well? Try removing one of the sticks of ram (DIMM or SODIMM) and see if you get the same crashing, then reinstall and remove the other one and try again.

Well that was only my 4 foot dish. I have an incomplete 8 foot dish here with a George Foreman grill attached at the focal point. My 12 foot dish was dismantled and gone (1100 3.5" hard drive platters).

The DDR333 PC2700 will down clock itself and is backward compatible to PC2100. That should not be an issue. Anything loose? Can you see the bottom side of the complete board for any burns or scorch marks? Check wiring for possible break in insulation?
