SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

If I had my act more together I'd say hey, you could send your cards to me and I could flash 'em for you. To anyone proficient with hot air, it's a really quick and easy job. Though that doesn't account for the programming part... And yes, optical drives do work. I've actually got a SATA...

The Windows 98 Tualatin Build...with SATA, of course (and how I did it)

Added some photos. Also got a few more I couldn't really fit into the post?

The Windows 98 Tualatin Build...with SATA, of course (and how I did it)

Right, been meaning to document this. The Premise To keep it simple, three things aligned to make this all happen. 1. I wanted to play some SimCity 2000, with cheats, and the Mac OS version's cheats suck. 2. I had recently been to a local's house and acquired some 98-era video cards that I...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Made one more alteration: Since I had to delve into the PC side of SATA things anyway and had to actually roll back one of my flashed cards so I could use it in my Win98 PC...I filled out that part of the guide. Short of just...clarifying things and such, I think this guide is very much complete.

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Kept you waiting, huh. It's been a while! And I'm here to tell you I finally, FINALLY got around to using the OS 9 flasher for myself and boy oh boy was it so drop dead simple. If you have the means to go that route, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Unless you like soldering EEPROMs or something...

Trying to figure out a thermal solution for the GeForce 3 in the Cube

It "works" but only as a dumb framebuffer. No games will run in OS 9, the 6200 is too new. And Classic under OS X has...mixed results. Some games got updates to work in OS X, but some seem to just...not work properly, even given that. OS9 is my jam, and the GF3 is the best OS9 card that'll work...

Trying to figure out a thermal solution for the GeForce 3 in the Cube

So, as luck would have it, I managed to stumble into a real, in the flesh GeForce 3 for the Cube. While my Cube has a GF6200 in it, been on the look out for an OS9 card because that's the OS I generally want to use on the Cube. The only issue I've had is that of thermals. I've googled, even...

    Tinker Different 2024 Calendar Competition

This sounds like a good time, count me in. iPods and the good 'ol Power Mac 9600.

Bringing 9.x extensions back to 8.6 (including Radeon 9200 drivers!)

I forget who told me this, but I gotta thank the person who told me that 9.x is just 8.6 but with OS X junk. To put it simply, the .sit file attached contains a few things that are nice to have assuming you have the hardware, because the OS 8.6 installer either doesn't have these things, or...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Decided to make a substantial update to the guide. Rewrote part of it, added a placeholder for a part of the guide I need to write. I will say if there's anyone on here willing to organize group buys and/or do the flashing process on the more difficult EEPROMs for those who lack the facilities...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Another update! Collin actually managed to shrink the ROM down so that it can fit on a 128K chip, which means that hopefully desoldering should no longer be necessary. He also patched the flasher utility for Mac OS so it should be able to flash these cards just fine for the most part. This is...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

AirplaneHome linked it, but it was also in the original post, as well. (I keep that updated with the relevant info.) Only replied just in case people were watching this topic to know to give it a look. The patched firmware file is also attached to the OP, as well.

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Replying to this because we've just had a major breakthrough in the SATA market: dosdude1 did what he does best and actually patched out the EEPROM check for the Seritek/Firmtek 1S2 ROM, so now it should be possible to use it in *ALL* EEPROMs, so long as they're 512K. I don't have the means to...

Apple Thermal Transfer Printer aka Iic Scribe repair and cartridge info

So I ripped apart my pretty busted up Scribe to find a TEC chip on it. Markings are TEC 7293-9137 EC-9137 8427AAA JAPAN This is the dump from that chip, taken in Xgpro with a TL866II+, though because the TEC chip wasn't in its database I set it to the Intel D27128. So your mileage may vary.

Radeon 7000 and 7.6.1 issues (Code fragment could not be prepared)

Unfortunately, those did the very same thing. Install great, but hang at the code fragment error.

Radeon 7000 and 7.6.1 issues (Code fragment could not be prepared)

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this because I'm hitting a brick wall. Not sure if this Radeon 7000 is retail or not, but it does have the DVI and S-Video ports on board (and I used to have one that was JUST VGA). I'm trying to get 7.6.1 working on my 9600/300, and the one thing I'm...

    Tsunami motherboard L2 cache card?

Not sure if it's the same on other Tsunami boards, but I know on the 9600 there's actually a resistor on the board that can be desoldered to disable the onboard cache entirely. Though at least for NewerTech cards, the drivers do dance around it effectively and remap the logic board L2 as L3 cache.

    Tsunami motherboard L2 cache card?

Just seeing this now and hmmmmm. I'm kinda deep into building up my 9600 (though it's irrelevant now because mine has since been upgraded to a Kansas architecture board) and this whole rabbit hole makes me wonder if the L2 module for the PowerTower could be used on the 9600 for whatever reason...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Bringing this thread back from the dead to say I've added an update to the guide pertaining to the AliExpress SIL3112s. Specifically, whoever or whatever makes these cards does a crap job of it, so if you have one of these cards and it's giving you trouble, I'd resolder all the capacitors. At...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

So I actually made a very interesting discovery with those cards that Garth gave me to poke around with: They actually work. But not in any of my OW Macs. I tried them in my MDD. Both came up fine with no issues, complete with OS 9 support because of the firmware. But if I put them in my beige...
