That's interesting, I had the exact same problem with my Power Mac 6500/300! Freezing within minutes of play of basically all hardware accelerated games, regardless of it was RAVE or OpenGL.

Thank you for testing @joevt. I have heard reports that the game is playable in 8.6 if you supply the DrawSprocket and RAVE extensions from OS 9.0, but I have not tried it myself.

My problem was not on the CPU, I don't know the name of the component. It had a big grey aluminum heatsink, in the center of the logic board. The CPU is to the left of that component, and mounted on the bottom side.

You could have the same problem as I did then, busted BGAs.

The battery was not the culprit. I tried with 3 new batteries and it didn’t work. Pressing on the BGA with a few kilograms of force helped, but only for a few seconds.

I was not able to fix it with a heat gun and flux.

It wasn't the caps. Most likely it is one of the big BGAs on the logic boards that is failing.

Quick update: I was reading the wrong manual. I found the correct one, for the Summer 2001 editions of the iMac G3. In the correct manual, it instructs you to check voltage at C4 instead of C10. The voltages are -1.2V when plugged in but powered off, and +25V when powered on (expected +21V). It...
