Folks, I thought we could use the LC520 motherboard inside an LC575 computer body, but apparently not. My LC520 board is now dead!
Some of you may recall my LC520 recapping video, and my 84V VGA Mod video. As you could see, I had a working LC520 board even prior to the recap, and it worked...
Hi all, thanks for allowing me to join the forum.
I have two Color Classics - both Euro units - which I have recapped. One of the CCs has always had an unstable image. By unstable, I mean it generally looks okay but may flicker and change geometry momentarily from time to time. It also looks...
Hi everyone! A few years ago I got a Color Classic that didn't work properly (can't recall the exact symptoms at that point - again, it has been a while...). So I performed the obvious operations: Recapping the logic board with Tantalum capacitors and the more "error prone" caps from the analog...
I'm not getting any replies in the TechStep recreation thread, so I decided to make this a new post.
If you own a Color Classic with the stock motherboard and also have a TechStep along with the required Vol.4 Cartridge for testing the stock CC M.B., I've love to hear if you are able to perform...
All of us who have done the 68.4V "VGA Mod" on our Mac Color Classic ANALOG BOARDS know that you must change the SENSE LINES, and that involves ISOLATING pin-25. I did that, along with @Branchus and @Kay K.M.Mods and countless other people through the years, and none of us have any problems...
I posted this on 68kmla a few months back, but I've finally got around to revising the model and open sourcing it. I just wanted to share for anyone that this might be useful for. Tinkerdifferent seems to be a little more active for compact mac conversation.
I couldn't find what I wanted in a...
So Since I got a fair bit of positive traction I have been hard at work on this project in my spare time. It has come a long way. I have done a few things that make this fairly interesting
This project will be printable on a 220x220x220 3d printer
This will work with a Pico Pi , Pi Zero\w , Pi...
Good Evening,
So I've been picking up a few systems locally and wanted to start recapping them for either my personal collection or to sell/trade. I've had a number of successes including two Mac Classics, a Classic II, and a Color Classic. All were "working" before the recap in that they at...
Paul Hagstrom from the Apple II Enthusiasts Facebook group very kindly provided me with this PDF, which I uploaded to Archive.org for preservation and subsequently linked here on TinkerDifferent. It showcases the complete Apple product line being sold as of the summer of 1993.
My main interest...
I am currently filming a new video about the Apple IIe Card in my Color Classic Mystic. As many of you know, I performed the VGA mod on this CC earlier this year, which boost the stock resolution of 512x384 to 640x480. Smaller pixels means everything is smaller, but the upside is you can run...
I have the typical burning resistor and pair of diodes on my Color Classic analog board (photo of problem area provided, with resistor and diodes circled in red). 2 of them, actually, same exact issue. They both work, but I'd rather not push my luck and fix them while I can.
Can someone please...
I was wondering if anyone knew how exactly the Color Classic 575 logic board resistor swap trick works?
This allows the 575 board work on a 512x384 stock Color Classic Monitor.
Method in question:

Are we letting the 575 board know that we are connected to a...
(Edit: adding disclaimer: I should make it clear this is not due to lack of information on JDW's video. He covered it at 7:15 of the video, but I'm an idiot and even though I watched the whole video when it first came out, I skipped ahead to the action when I went to go watch the steps today...
Anyone else have extreme difficulty removing the Color Classic analog board after all cables have been removed. I watched @Branchus' video on the removal and his slides right out. Is it possible the edge connectors are fused somehow. I've used a good amount of force and cannot get it to...
I posted this question on FaceBook (Vintage Apple Macintosh Enthusiasts group) 5 days ago and not a single person replied, so let's see if the amazingly knowledgable folks here at TinkerDifferent can do better!
Do any of you have experience using any of the following Keystron RAM SIMMs in your...
I finally got a chance to upgrade my SCSI2SD to MacSD today. Nothing wrong with the SCSI2SD but the CD-ROM functionality and other features really sold me on the MacSD.
I created long wires for my RGB LED and positioned it into the holes on the bottom of the CC. You can see it in the video...
Fellow Color Classic Mystic lovers, wouldn't you like to play Marathon, Dark Forces, have more workspace in Photoshop, and access all those amazing CD-ROMs that otherwise won't run on your 512x384 screen? In this new video, I review 3 hardware methods to achieve a higher 640x480 pixel...
Keep your beloved CC cool, semi-quiet and with slightly less current consumption too!
Currently, the VGA Mod (with discussion about the 13" Hi-rez mod) and Spicy O'Clock Overclocking videos are in the works!
Since it's Thanksgiving in the US today, I should express my thanks for Panasonic's low-ESR OS-CON capacitors. They're the ideal choice when recapping of the LC575 "Mystic" motherboard, especially when you upgrade the CPU and/or overclock.
Enjoy that turkey, friends! 🦃
