I've come into a clean PB G4 12" that doesn't boot. On powerup, I hear the HD start, and then I get fast system fans and nothing else. No chime, no activity on the screen.

Doing PMU reset doesn't change anything with either battery in or battery out. It does seem to be charging the battery, though.

Googling around doesn't seem to turn up much for answers other than "It's the logic board". If that's true, that's fine - but what specifically is it on the logic board that needs attention would be nice to know.

TIA for any insights or advice!

Well, if it isnt passing post and you're feeling lucky, maybe swap out the ram? Ram might be freaking out. I had similar no-post conditions from both a dead gpu in pb12 and cpu in pb15 and a ic failure on an ibook12".

Id pop the lobo out & give it a close look over - busted caps, bad ics related to the gpu and cpu. Might as well take a close look at the ram slot soldering points as well. These powerpc 12pbs run insanely hot. They literally will cook themselves to death. No doubt that heat probably has destroyed one (or a few) of the listed components.

Full transparency, I was unable to repair the gpu or cpu failures. I was able to reflow the ic on the ibook and it still works to this day. I kept the dead 12 for m other 12pb and gave the 15 to a bud for parts. To really work through one of these at the component level, you really need a quality bench set up with magnification, quality iron, parts etc. If that is not your schtick, sourcing a beaten & functional 12 could be a good strategy for the pristine corpse you have now

Best of luck to you. :)
