2014 (7,1) Mac Mini... no internal speaker audio

I do not get an audio from the internal speaker on my 2014 (7,1) Mac Mini.

I replaced the speaker with one from a different 2014 Mac Mini... and still not audio... but the original speaker works great in the other machine.

Zapped PRAM. Physically removed the clock battery... waited... reinstalled it.

Swapped the PSU. No difference.

No internal speaker audio in the OS... no power-on bong. Plug in headphones, and the audio plays through the headphones, and the OS indicates that headphones have been plugged in.

Any idea what I should check next?

Does it only see headphones plugged in when there are actually headphones plugged in? Could be the jack is stuck in headphone/bypass mode. If the headphone jack isn't misbehaving then my next suspect would be the small power amp driving the speaker. It would probably be closest to the connector for the speaker

I know this is a late reply for this pots, but I've seen this issue with MacBook Pros. I don't remember what the remedy was, but maybe looking up MacBook Pros and no audio might lead you in the right direction.

Other than reinstalling the OS or booting into some flavor of Linux to make sure it's not a hardware issue, I'm stumped.

I'd love to hear if you ever got this figured out.
