Hello.
I recently acquired a 512MB Nvidia 6200 AGP card. Although I read that the bus is limited to 64-bit—compared to the 128-bit bus on the 256MB model—I decided to give it a try.
I removed the EEPROM and dumped its contents, used "6200 ROM Maker" to convert the ROM for Mac compatibility, and then flashed it back onto the EEPROM.
I covered pins 3 and 11. Once installed in a Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver) and booted into Sorbet Leopard, it only shows 256MB; however, when booting into OS 9 (where no drivers are loaded), Apple System Profiler shows 512MB.
I’ve discovered that this limitation stems from the Nvidia driver in OS X. Is there a solution? Are there any modified drivers available? Is the upgrade to 512MB even worth it?
