A Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook found its way into my hands for free yesterday! It’s in good shape, works great, and the battery even holds charge, although it’s only at 55% health with a lot of cycles. This is one of those neat one-generation non-pro models. It could use an SSD and some more RAM, but it still runs great as is for now.

Here is is with the rest of its (mostly) happy family. I’ve now got all of the non-pro MacBooks! (Besides the awful 2015 redesign one)

Very nice. These a1278s are one of my fav early intel macs. They do chew through batteries like no other but have served me well since I picked it up in 2008. Over the years mine picked up max 8gb ram, an SSD, and a backlit kb. The only thing I wish it had was FW & a card reader like the mbp would be nice but really, these were stout machines- nice pick up 🙂

I actually have two - one with el cap & one running Catalina & the one thing about that upgrade is that after the Mac goes to sleep, when it wakes up it forgets it has wireless & cannot connect to networks. I haven’t figured out how to fix that yet. I still use that Mac often despite the wonky Wi-Fi.

i got the 2008 Aluminum MacBook when it was new. and it served me well for a LONG time.

it just .. stopped turning on one day and i never did figure out why. otherwise. i was still using it as my main laptop machine up to a few years ago.

really liked it when it worked.
