Its the first day of summer for my three boys so I took my oldest two to the jump park for some morning fun. My DJ bike is out of commission right now so I took my gravel bike - no biggie as I was more focused on finding some new smooth pump track lines than submitting my rigid gravel bike to 280# me and the impact of jumps.
I was having some great fun dialing in a few new lines dropping in from/off the "big hill". We had the place to ourselves and had been riding about an hour and a half when I dropped in and decided to roll across the top of a pumptrack hill which was a terrible choice because in my minds eye Id just drop back in off the end of it but unlike literally every other pump track hill that had this wonderfull rounded end you can drop into, this one was chopped off on the end. I did not realize this and did not carry enough speed to launch off the end safely. Instead I realized my error but had to commit to the drop going way too slow. I tried to get waaay back on my bike to hopefully pop out the bottom of this near vertical incline.
No dice. My skinny gravel bike tire bit in and over the handlebars I went. Crashed downwards about 5 feet to the flat, scratched the crud out of my knee and left shoulder and knocked the wind out of myself pretty good with my handlebars separating some cartilage on the left side of my rib cage. At least my helmet saved my head so I guess there's that. Man I havent taken myself out like that in many years. I am so arfing sore right now (especially my left rib cage under my armpit where my handlebars wedged in real good) a few hours into this injury/crash lol. This is the way.
My kids were impressed, so there's that! LOL
Anyone else have some fun BT stories?
