This week I received a time capsule -- a new M5214Z/B kit, a nubus card for creating a remote access server.
An interesting set, especially the poster, made me laugh, because the first thing that will be done is to make copies of floppy disks.
I have an idea how I can test this board and technology.
Theoretically, Robotics Courier modems have the ability to connect directly without a telephone line, so I will need two such modems.
I see it like this:
1. Install the card in Q950 and connect the modem.
2. Connect the modem to PM9600 and connect the modems with the phone line directly Line <-> Line . A connection cable needs to be created.
3. In the ZTERM, send AT-command AT&B1&S2&H1&L1&W. After that, the modems should try to communicate with each other.
4. You may be able to use CCL scripts for such a scenario, and you may have to write your own script.
5. If everything works, then following the example of this post, you can try to use Apple IP Gateway and distribute TCP/IP to the connected client over AppleTalk.
I think that's about how it was used 30 years ago, except that the telephone line was real.
Does anyone have Apple Remote Access MultiPort Server 2.1.1? I found it here, but I can't download it.
I also came across an interesting implementation of ARA using Null modem cable.
I don't know when I'll do it yet, since I haven't finished my project with DOS on MAC yet, but I think it's interesting.
