I have some Apple Restoration CDs that I just uploaded to the Macintosh Garden. My understanding is these were used by Apple service centers/partners to restore hard drives for specific Mac models to the same image they left the factory with, which in some (many?) cases includes items you would not get by re-installing via the bundled media that shipped with these Macs. I believe somewhere around 1997 Apple started shipping "Restore CDs" in addition to OS install CDs with many systems that did the same thing but before that these CDs seem like the only way to get things like the "PowerBook 1400 demo application" that aren't on the OS install disks. I really like the idea of being able to take a Mac back to factory config vs. just the base OS install (matching at least that aspect it had from the factory) which you can achieve with generic OS install disks or the Apple Legacy Software Recovery CD.
