I’m trying to get AppleShare over TCP running via my (external) BlueSCSI v2 from an SE/30 running 7.5.5. The BlueSCSI has firmware 2025.08.02, and the Mac has OpenTransport 1.3 with AppleShare Client 3.7.2. However, the Mac doesn’t see the Netatalk 4.2.3 server that I’m running in a Linux VM. (Other TCP/IP applications are working just fine from the Mac, and my modern Mac can see the Netatalk server.) Attempting to connect to a server via IP address from the chooser produces the error “The file server does not use a recognizable log on sequence”. (It produces this same error when I connect to any address at all, so it may not be helpful.)
Netatalk’s AFP daemon reports offering AFP versions from 1.1 up to 3.4, including 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2.
Netatalk? Mac configuration? BlueSCSI? There are enough different pieces to this puzzle that I’m not even sure how best to go about debugging this one. Suggestions of places to start would be welcome!
