BlueSCSI V2 access LED affected by DaynaPort

Hi, I have a BlueSCSI V2 PowerBook edition, with Pico W, hardware version 2023.10a I think. I've hooked up a little piezo buzzer to the LED solder pads and this gives me feedback as to when the SD card is being accessed, which is really useful; I find the silence of solid state drives to be unnerving as I can't tell if the machine is hung or not.

The problem is that when I access the internet through the DaynaPort emulated device, any send and receive activity is also heard through the buzzer. I'd like to only hear the buzzer for the SD card though. Is there any way to set this?

The LED is directly driven by the SCSI activity line as there are only so many pins on the Pi Pico so you will get a blink/buzz for each time it is accessed. The daynaport driver works by polling the bus so you will hear/see that each time.

Hey @croissantking , sorry to dig up this old thread, but I was wondering how your piezo buzzer/speaker sounds. I know it’s not a relay “drum” like I have seen written up a while back, or the little board with the microcontroller for a clicker of a clicker, but you can’t beat the simplicity, right? I am pretty sure I have a few of these little speaker/buzzers in the parts bins. Does this actually work?

Hey, the piezo buzzer works fine. There's not much I can say about it – it's a cheap solution that does the job if you want audible feedback for disk access.

Well, heck, that‘s not bad at all! By the time the case is all buttoned up, that would sound like a lot of drives I have heard over the years. Thanks for sharing that!

OK, here we go:

This works a treat!
All I did was solder a splitter on the LED wires and added a tiny speaker/buzzer. I will 3D print a little mounting clip with an adjustable mute. Perfect.
