Decided to do some kitchen cleaning before the big day & got behind the stove. Got it looking great, plugged 220 back in, pushed the unit back in and turned the kettle on … then BAM a nice flash & a whiff of magic smoke. Dead oven & range at 12 noon - the day before Thanksgiving with the whole family inbound. Pulled the back off and a couple cooked components leading to elements. Not going to fix this by tomorrow.

😐

After wifey finished a mild WTF, we luckily were able to pick up a nice appliance & then mad rushed back home by 3p, got it up the stairs (.5” on either side) & installed. Just finished my meez for tomorrow & I’m tired AF. Guess it’s better than the oven & range dying tomorrow when everything is closed. 😅

Funny side note, the overhead microwave went kaput two days ago. Talk about planned obsolescence. Couldn’t have planned that better.

hey on the bright side this thing has an app that allows me to do all sorts of things to it. 🙄

I have a gas range/oven from 1969. Not an option for folks who don't have gas in the house. But nothing electric to blow out. The control knobs are all gas valves. Not electrical controls connected to a failure-prone CPU that might or might not agree to operate the range/oven for you.

The new appliances are so pretty. But this thing is so reliable.... The worst issue is occasionally the thermocouple in the oven needs cleaning.

Being of professional kitchens, electric anything is a big let down. I love that instant heat of gas, high btus and the consistency of the technology. None the less, this home has 220 piped to the range & kitchen. It’s unfortunate because we do have gas to the dryer, water heater & furnace, so it is in the house. I would at some point have gas brought into the kitchen for a proper 8 burner double oven range. Where the range is now, isn’t far from the water heater and furnace who share a closet space down stairs. I got the 5Yr extended warranty on this thing so if it makes it past yr5 I’ll be happy. By then we’ll probably either move or tear out this kitchen for a proper remodel & gas line to kitchen.
