I picked up a 20" ADC acrylic Cinema Display a few months back which has a few issues with the panel, and I'm hoping for some suggestions on the best way to deal with them. The backlight is iffy, which I knew when I got it. It starts out pretty dim but gets decent after a few minutes of use. I'd originally thought about doing an LED backlight conversion or just replacing the CCFLs, but on closer inspection I can see what would best be described as a faint discoloration starting around the edges of the panel. It almost looks like an irregularly shaped lighter area, maybe 1/4" wide and about 1/8" from the edge of the display, and it more or less hugs the edges of the screen. I can snap a picture later on if need be.
Anyways, I also have access to a 20" iMac G5 with multiple logic board issues (capacitors and faulty GPU) that I have no interest in repairing, and it got me thinking that I wonder if I can pull the good condition LCD panel from that machine and use it to repair the Cinema Display. I've read that the panels are compatible between the aluminum Cinema Displays and the 20" G4 and G5 iMacs, but I haven't been able to find any information on the acrylic ACDs. Before I crack them open to find out, does anyone have any ideas on whether or not this would be a relatively straightforward swap? Thanks!
