I thought I would share some of my progress on getting VGA output on a Color Classic using my XC1186B reverse-engineered replacement board. It's looking pretty good, and requires just a little extra circuitry beyond my v4 design (which I have in breadboard form at the moment, hanging off the PCB with an umbilical ribbon). I had most of the relevant signals available, they just needed a little level shifting and buffering. 640x480 60Hz works pretty well, but I don't have a VGA-compatible monitor that will work with 800x600 56Hz, in order to test that mode.

I'm planning to create a new version of the board that will incorporate these additions and add a pin header for the VGA output. I'm also considering designing a stand-alone board that would work with any CC, even with a stock XC1186B, that would provide the same VGA output functionality. It would probably require soldering a few connections on the underside of the analog board at the BV1 connector position, in order to steal all the necessary video signals while still allowing them to pass through to the XC1186B. Some of the video-related components on the AB would have to be replicated, but it's not too complicated.
