Display resolution issues on b&w

Hi all,

I’ve got my b&w humming along nicely, but i have a question about screen resolutions now that I’ve put the old crt studio display back in its box.

The “relatively” modern acer lcd with vga input is finicky about signal, particularly about wanting them to be 60hz. My blue and white has changed resolution and now the panel is stuck on “resolution not supported”

If I hold shift it will startup without extentions in 800x600 at 60hz and work fine, but how do I change the resolution back to something my lcd will support?

Do I have to drag the crt studio display out of its box every time this happens?

hold command, option, p, and r on startup, once you hear the chime the second time, release those buttons, it should reset the resolution

Thanks! I’ll zap the pram.To be honest I’m a bit worried because the thing doesn’t chime at all even though it boots up just fine!

I tried it but it seems like whatever resolution it goes to after pram zap is not supported by my monitor! I guess I’ve got to fish the CRT out of its box…

weird, the monitor must not like anything that isn't remotely close to its native resolution

I’m not sure what the “default”resolution is and why it’s different than the “be extensions” screen resolution…

Just to close the loop here, try the newest monitor you have with vga in. The b&w actually reads the native resolution off the Samsung panel and can power it at 1920 by 1200

yup, the wonders of modern VGA. Modern VGA monitors use an extra pin which powers a ROM on the monitor which communicates its capabilities to the graphics card or system

I was pretty psyched. Apparently my older, crappier acer panel wasn’t being taken seriously by the G3 but the Samsung seems to make it happy.
