I've seen posts about adding RAM chips to empty pads on SIMMs/DIMMs to, for example, turn a 8MB stick into a 16MB one, and now I'm wondering if that's doable for "older" SSDs? In particular I have several STEC 128MB "Flash Drives" SLFLD25 - 128MM1U that appear to have pads for flash chips that if all filled would make them more useful 2GB drives... I do wonder if the complexity might come in the missing resistors, etc. which might control what the drive even tries to use flash chips wise. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would think the controller IC would need programming to tell it how much flash is installed, having a quick look around I wasn't able to find a datasheet for it so can't confirm this.

There are some configuration jumper resistors though but again without a datasheet it's hard to tell what these do
