Newton install packages (apps in todays speak) are a notorious problem these days as their .pkg extension is used by Mac OS X also. It also doesn't help that the icons are similarly coloured and shaped. Any chance of adding newton packages creator type "pkgX" with file type "pkg " NOTE the trailing space after pkg as it is important, to the next beta?

Of course! could you point me to a few .pkg files with their forks preserved as an example? I'm not too familiar with Newton - though I do have a 120 on the shelf.

Looks like one has HBSF/GEOL - though they both have same/similar magic at the beginning

Ok, that’s odd.

GEOL is the creator designation for AppleLink.
HBSF indicates that it’s an AppleLink package file.

That .pkg must have either been downloaded using AppleLink or someone’s system automatically assigned that type/creator combination to an otherwise unknown file.

If you'd like it added please provide the type/creator you'd expect - and if you'd like it to be more than just a file extension check please provide a one that has retained its fork/type/creator as an example.

Release 1.0.1-a

Fixed an issue where folders would not show the custom icon right away. Thanks jjuran for the help.
Accepted a patch from JCS to to better handle file ext checks.
Added error handler if type/creator could not be set.
