Hi there.

Are there any guides, instructions and component lists available for purchasing a small fan for installation into the rear of the Plus chassis?

I've seen various custom mods but nothing a novice can immediately follow.

There's the Fanny Mac - which sits on the top of your mac. There's one on ebay for $25 shipped now. If you have or know of someone with a 3d printer you could make your own https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/fanny-mac-clone-community-feedback.1826/ via @Stephen

IMO If you're not leaving your Plus on for hours and hours - it's probably OK to run it without a fan. I do have a Fanny Mac just because I picked one up with a box of things, it does have power buttons in the front so thats nice, but the fan is quite loud.

That video skips over the early machines and Plus and basically says 'don't bother'. But I know my Plus runs HOT.

The Fanny Mac is interesting but i was hoping to find a modern reproducible mod that someone else actually did.

I hate to intrude on your thread but I love love love my Plus for its silence. I don’t use it because of its performance (I have an SE/30 about 7 ft away from the Plus) and I don’t use it because of my personal Plus’s condition (it’s in rougher shape than my SE/30) and I don’t use it for its keyboard (my Plus’s kb is stiff as bricks) and I don’t use it for its screen (my crt is heavily used.. it was prob one of those perennially-on computers on someone’s office desk).. I use my Plus as my go-to vintage mac because it’s beautifully and wonderfully SILENT. It’s like.. zen silent. They just don’t make em like that anymore :D

So the idea of getting a fan for my plus is.. Anathema! But yeah those cool old mac fans were quite the curiosity so do you and post pics - would love to see your setup!`

This model of Mac tends to be reliable, suggesting that it was designed to tolerate the heat. Just don’t put anything (like books) over the vents.
