It is time to re-cap my Macintosh 7200 power supply and before I can get to the fun part I have to find out how to get this hot glue off from everything... I have read a few different tricks but I wanted to gather as much data as I can before proceeding.

'Is there anybody in there' that has battled this battle successfully? 'Nod if you can hear me' and let me know what best practices are.

Bonus points if you can guess what I am listening to as I type this!

I included eye candy imagery of the honey like glue as it is spread across the caps like digital eroticism for reference.

Dang do I love recapping boards!

Dang! That is really honey glazed. Pink Flyod would be aghast. I usually just use a long needle-nose pliers to pull at it little by little. I guess it depends on how hard the stuff is. I have seen soft silicone stuff and super hard cement stuff.

For sure! They really wanted to lock it down and eliminate any chance of vibration it seems.

This specific stuff is rock solid as though it were almost epoxy.

I much prefer the white somewhat soft silicone stuff that you can pluck

Since it is old and these boards have snapped in shipping before I was hesitant to freeze it to remove the glue.

What worked was placing it in an AC vent to cool a lot. Then it was easy to snap off the glue without making the board more brittle.

Now its just the glue that is at the foot of the capacitors that is my nemesis...

Anyone want the glue nibs? Its like amber... Perhaps containing Macintosh DNA allowing for clones... I need to turn on the fume extractor....
