You can reach the iMac G3 battery through the opening meant for installing RAM or Airport Cards. It's not super easy, but not too hard to get it out.i went through my collection and got rid of all the easy to remove batteries. but that means i have some computers like iMacs (g3 and g4) that prolly still have batteries.
