Hi tinkerer’s,

Some of the keys on my M0110 have stopped working, I already cleaned the contacts with some isopropyl alcohol and used compressed air to bow out every switch. I also measured some contacts with my multimeter. When put back together, the key I was trying to fix worked again, but some others stopped working. What could be the problem?

If you can manage it, desolder the caps that don't work, then gently open them by prying open the bottom base. You should be able to take them apart. Apply a cleaner like DeOxit or just gently clean the metal contact directly. Then put back together!

Barring that, spraying some WD-40 directly into the keycap seems to help some (and was Larry Pina's suggestion in Macintosh Repair & Upgrade Secrets).

I’m gonna try some wd-40 first. Desoldering the caps is something I’m kind of dreading. I’m new to soldering so it’s kind of scary. Definitely since a replacement keyboard is very hard to find and expensive. Might have no other choice if the wd-40 trick wouldn’t work. Thanks for the advice!
