Macintosh IIci - Chimed after recap and then stopped

Hello all,
Recently I acquired a IIci that "needed a recap" and it has been an absolute nightmare.
I am at my wits end here! It started with a simple recap from Console5, which went well, I got a chime!
However, I would never pass the memory test. I know the ram is good, oh well, whatever. I shelved the project.
When I came back, I tried to power on the board to make sure my notes were correct, except this time I only get a pop and a hiss in the speaker. No Chime.
Now, I checked the voltage off the big radial caps and had them replaced with spares I had on the shelf, they seemed to be acting up. They are rated the exact same as what was there before.
I have poked and prodded everything I could think of, checked the rom jumper, continuity of the RAM sockets, CPU, reflowed all the new caps, lifted a pad and had to bodge around it. Me and this thing have been at it. I even ordered a ROM Simm recently thinking maybe the rom is bad, nope, still nothing.

I am just about ready to give up, but I am open to suggestions. Anything is appreciated!

Oh, and I did clean all the cat hair off after I took these photos.

Y2krecall,

So odd that it chimed when you last tired and nothing now.

I know you mentioned voltages were good but have you tried with an external PSU?

My PSU has not failed yet but I have heard nightmares on the recap process so it might be easier to just test with an ATX PSU like described in this video:

Not saying this is your issue, but it will remove on of the variables to at least get you to chime again. If it works then you can go back to the possible memory issue.

Hope this helps!

P.s. I go the info from 68kmla:

This was actually the first thing I did, my OEM PSU had the click of death so I repurposed an old StarTech PSU I had. I tested the voltages off the psu and the continuity of the connector on the board, it checked out.

Then the only other thing that would stop a IIci from booting would be the soft power circuit by the power button. They are these three chips around the SMD caps: (UB13, UE13 and the other escapes me)

You might need to remove them and clean up any cap juice underneath, clean up the pads and hope the chips survived.

Those are the usual culprits when it comes to power issues.

I’ll give those a looksie soon then. If it matters, the green LED comes on and the speakers pop and hiss when I power on.
