Hi all!
Right before I was beginning to work on trying to fix the broken power button on a Macintosh Performa Plus Display that I recently got, I noticed that it started to make a soft humming followed by a loud chirping sound when I would press on the power button when it was plugged in. This was accompanied by the monitor screen not wanting to turn on even while holding the power button in the on-position. I was doing some research on google and it gave me such a diverse range of possible issues like shortages that could be occurring in the transistor, capacitors, diodes near the power transformer, or the flyback wire near the power transformer.
In all fairness I did only get this monitor for about 20 bucks and went into this knowing the project that might be on my hands. With that being said, I am trying to wrap my head around just how many things may need to be changed or replaced to get this thing back in full kicking operation. Would also be beneficial to gauge whether the cost of the level of service needed on this thing would be worth the alternative of simply finding a more functional display for a reasonable price. Open to suggestions or advice as this is my first time working on a vintage piece of tech.
