This is photo from Mac Portable non-backlight. Trying to recap and repair the traces. I noticed the 2 tinned traces coming from R22 show continuity across R22 resister. Should they show continuity? What is likely causing that if not?

That resistor should be 4.7 ohms, which some meters may determine as low enough resistance to beep “continuity”. What does the meter say in resistance mode?

Update on my progress and couple more questions.

After fixing 3 traces, 1 missing pad and recap, it lives again, but has display issues. See vertical bars in the Display. Clearly the display needs replace but are the bars in the display because of the board or the display itself? I do not have another portable to test with.

I read somewhere that the PowerBook 170 has same display. Is that true? I happen to have a 170 but probably don’t want to steal the display from it.

I'm not sure this helps at all, and I have seen a comment on Reddit that says the two panels are the same, but there are also Apple references to different part numbers:

PowerBook 170 display - part number 661-0711
Mac Portable LCD Non-BackLit display - 661-0473
Mac Portable LCD BackLit display - 661-0647

The thread at https://tinkerdifferent.com/resources/powerbook-lcd-part-number-list.132/ does show them as the same manufacturer, but the Portable backlit panel has no model number to compare. But it does have the PB 170, which you may be able to check against your display perhaps.

Thx for the info @Yoda . I’ll tackle the display shortly.

Update:
  1. The vertical lines in the display cleared up after the ultrasonic clean.. Only issue with display is the physical damage.
  2. Boots from external Floppy fine. Internal did not work with original drive but have not service it yet.
  3. Sound is good.
  4. Unable to boot from external SCSI via ZuluSCSI or HD.
Is there a schematic or matrix available for this non-backlight board? I need to hunt down the SCSI issue.
