I acquired a PowerBook 100, in very good condition. I cold-started it, and the screen lit up, hard drive came on, then off- like the old Conner drives would do. The brightness knob worked as expected, but the contrast knob did nothing. I opened it, took out the hard drive, and taped the rubber stopper. This fixed the hard drive (ie, it seemed to boot), but the screen was still blank and contrast knob still not working. I recapped the screen, and replaced a couple of caps near where the screen plugs into the motherboard. Same issue. Before I recap the whole motherboard or investigate inverter board, etc, has anyone ever seen this and/or have any thoughts on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
