Managed to score one of these a few months ago, but I've been slowly gathering the parts needed to turn this into a monster.
It's stock as far as CPU goes (300MHz 604ev), although I do have a few G3 cards I might try. I even have a 400MHz Formac ZIF carrier card, but no heatsink I can use. If anyone has a spare one, please let me know!
So, first up, finding large capacity 5v FPM DIMMs....
Luckily memory masters on ebay had 64MB ones... Four of them were procured at a steep price though!
Next, a video card. Obviously this came with the stock ixMicro Twin Turbo card, but it wasn't enough. So I got a 16MB PCI Rage 128 and fitted it.
A marginal upgrade but it'll do until I can figure out why my mac flashed Radeon 7000 PCI won't work in the 9600, even though it's fine in the Power Macintosh 7500.
The last piece of the puzzle was the drive. Now I already had an 80-pin SCA drive (Compaq 9GB), but I needed another adapter from @max1zzz - so... Voila, one was procured and... Tada!
Managed to install macOS 8.6 from the recovery CD, got the iomega tools installed and of course a copy of SimCity 2000!
The zip drive in here works just fine, too - even managed to boot off my 7.5.3 emergency restore zip disk I've made.
This is going to be my bridge machine. It's got an additional ethernet card in there, and I've got a PCI USB card on the way.
