Took the risk on buying a PowerMac G4 DP 500 with its original Studio Display, it would need to travel halfway across the US and the seller was using USPS, it was a risky purchase, but at least the G4 itself was being shipped in its original box. All I really wanted was the Dual G4-500, but if the monitor arrived working I would be happy. I was informed that I would get two separate packages, and of course they ran late.

Saturday afternoon I hear a thump and find this outside my front door, I'm not hopeful.

CRT is facedown with almost no packaging. The G4 itself I'd have to run to the post office to pick up a few days later.

I carefully removed it from the crumbling box and was amazed to find it still in one piece, with some damage to the stand.

A little dirty, some blemishes, but survived USPS's abuse and the image still looks good. The stand itself I figured I could patch with some high strength plastic epoxy.

First thing Tuesday morning I go pick up the tower.

Box is a little ratty, but complete and inside, one of the nicest G4 towers I've seen since my original one was new. Barely any marks or scratches on it, the system is almost entirely original. Dual G4-500, original keyboard and mouse, DVD-RAM, even the OS is the original 9.0.4 install from 2000. The hard drive is failing, but that's not unexpected.

All original packaging materials kept the tower safe during shipping.

One noticeable blemish, not bad for nearly 22 years old.

The wrong power cable came with it, but I still had mine from my original G4. Looks much better with the correct power cable

Removed the death cylinder immediately after opening the case.

It always boggles my mind how many people ship stuff with barely any packaging that are obviously fragile - if i'm paying a large amount for P&P - i expect some actual care and attention in the packaging portion!

Good find btw - G4's have a decent selection of parts still available from some vendors.

Also, a tip i learned from @Mr. Fahrenheit - an MO drive will fit perfectly behind the ZIP bezel, so you can stuff 1.3GB+ of MO storage in easily enough, if you can locate a drive for a sane price :D

I'm honestly shocked that CRT survived!
Same, it's why the headline was "Small Miracle". I'm still amazed at how little damage the CRT took, the box itself was shredded. I might want to go buy myself a lotto ticket 😄

Overall I've been lucky. Over the past few years I've purchased and had to get shipped four CRT displays, all arrived intact, and more than a half dozen compact macs, only one seriously damaged.

If it had arrived seriously damaged, I would've made a stink, but I bought them super cheap. It was an auction and bidding ended low. Shipping was not cheap, but I'd still be surprised if the seller (the original owner and not a professional ebay seller) broke even.

I love the G4s, a dual G4-500 was my college computer, used it for 7+ years before giving it away. I had been keeping my eyes open for another inexpensive Mystic dual G4-500 for a while.

My old G4DP I had updated with USB 2.0, SATA, and a Quartz Extreme compatible video card. I also used to have a lot of fun with Linux on it, they were excellent Linux systems when setup right.

Thanks for the tip about the MO drive, that would be very neat if I come across one. I do need to find myself some DVD-RAM discs, as the DVD-RAM drive appears to work fine and that's upwards of 4.7GB of storage 😁
