So, taking it apart meant the 040 fell to bits. The pins just came away in my hand. Luckily I have spares!
Cleaned the VRAM with the fibreglass pencil and put it through the ultrasonic cleaner, looks nice and shiny now.
The logic board itself is tarnished, and RP4 should probably be replaced, but otherwise it looks like it's in good enough condition.
Wow, Kai! The 040 processor really broken apart when you tried to pry it out of the socket? Did the ceramic body crack when you tried to remove the heatsink holder?
I must say the board looks very nice after your cleaning. It is a pretty large board, so did you have to do half at a time in your ultrasonic cleaner?

The pins literally just fell off, leaving a flat spot with a tiny bit of exposed gold behind, no ceramic cracking at all.
The board itself went through the ultrasonic cleaner in two go's - mine is large enough to do about 2/3 of the board in a single go, but after it was ultrasonic'ed, i scrubbed it with a soft bristle toothbrush and dish soap in the sink, front and back, then back into the ultrasonic to loosen any additional grot, before a final once over in the sink with the toothbrush and some more dish soap, then rinse with water and then into the oven at 70*c for 20 mins to dry out.

Sounds like the pins must have rotted while still fitted inside that CPU connector. Wow! I do see a lot of corrosion on the metal "+" shaped bracket that holds the heatsink on. It guess that board has been through a lot.
