Hey folks,

I'm thinking about downloading the free version of DaVinci for my M3 MacBook Pro (18 gigs RAM, 1TB SSD) I will mostly be doing the type of videos you see below-photography reels put to music. I did this in iMovie (older version on the 2011 27" iMac), but I'm interested in playing around a little with DaVinci.

Has anyone here used DaVinci? If so, can you relate to me your experience? How intuitive is it?

Saul

I did linear video editing for years in the late 1990s before everything went digital. I have used iMovie and Adobe Premiere in the past as well. I downloaded DaVinci Resolve earlier this year to do some image stabilization on a video clip. I went to the Total Solar Eclipse but did not have a tracking scope, so I periodically adjusted the scope and this caused a lot of jitters. I was able to import my video clip into Resolve, and manually set keyframes at specific jitter points and clean up the video pretty well. I was also able to export the sequence at 5x speed. Advanced features, it has everything and more. There are a lot of online tutorial videos on Youtube and the forums at Black Magic are great too.

I just installed the free version on the M3. :)

I'm also a DaVinci Resolve user, but I'm an amateur user and a beginner. I used iMovie back in the day. Because of the depth of the tools in Resolve it's less intuitive, but that is countered by the massive amount of online tutorials and information about Resolve online, learning from video tutorials is so much easier and there are so many of them covering a wide range of aspects of the software.

We have been teaching Resolve to our A/V students in the college program I teach in for the past 2 or 3 years... I don't teach those classes myself, but my understanding is that it's 'better' than Adobe Premiere we moved from. Our A/V prof, a seasoned industry pro, swears by it, and our students have no problems picking it up. And my understanding is it's quickly becoming a standard in the industry. I expect you should have no issues becoming comfortable with it.
