So I just got the last of several boxes of stuff I won in the Mac repair store auction from "Auction House 282" on HiBid. My goodness, was it packed poorly! Most of what I won were disks and books, and the sellers made almost zero attempt to secure or protect anything in the boxes. Some packing paper, and that was it. By the time I got them, there were loose floppies, shattered floppy cases, cracks in the case of a Rodime external, a Powerbook CD module faceplate broken off. And one of the boxes of books was nearly falling apart when it arrived, it was so overpacked.

Wondering how others faired if they won anything from them.

Hmmm, @lilliputian, the AE HD (not Plus) could also read/write 800k and 1.44 MB? See AE's column on the left in this page from MacWorld's November 1991 issue:

The standard AEHD does not read 1.4MB floppies on a Mac Plus to the best of my knowledge. The AEHD+ is unique in that it takes care of handling HD floppies in lieu of the floppy controller in the Mac Plus, which is of course unaware of them. That's my understanding anyway.

In either case, both are usually prohibitively expensive when they appear.

Yeah, I noticed. Many sellers overprice vintage computers, hardware, and software. They think, "Oh, it's rare. It's worth more now." Twisted mentality. So, it's hard to shop well these days.

Yes, I was surprised also when receiving my 2 keyboards and mouses. I was waiting for better pacKing. It looks to me like they hire a moving company to do the job, this is typically what they are doing. Filling up the box with papers, not realizing that paper compress after a while.

Mine came double boxed wrapped in bubble wrap. Got a VST Super Disk for my Pismo for $5 + shipping.

I'm glad I'm not the only one recently affected by the sad attempt at packaging. Here's a little taste of what I was greeted with when I opened a couple boxes...

I tried calling their main number, but didn't get an answer. If they tell me to pound sand, I'll be really frustrated. I wouldn't feel right filing a claim with UPS, as this is definitely the fault of the sender for not using anything but a couple pieces of crumpled paper!

@Garrett, that is awful! I agree, the seller should be held liable for this because you did not receive in the SAME condition as they sold to you. It's like, you visit a store. You complete the transaction with the sales person. Then just before you get the item, the sales person damages it and gives to you. Is that right? NO! 😡

I guess I'm really glad I ended up not bidding on the 575 they had listed. I can't imagine what that looked like given their packaging job.

This is one of the reasons I only bid on items I can pick up locally from auction sites and individual sellers, present company excluded. The downside of course is a limited selection. If you are a collector, you're going to do a much better job of packaging.

Hooo boy, this thread doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. I won this, mostly for the cable and video adapter. Besides the invoice I received immediately after the auction, I haven't received a separate shipping invoice as I was told to expect in at least two weeks (that was almost 5 weeks ago). I've left several emails and voicemails asking about the status of the item with zero response. They never answer the phone. It sounds like if it does show up, I can expect a box with all of that stuff rattling around loose inside it. I think I'll give them another week before disputing the charge with my credit card company.
