Safe way to do a Post-recap Power Supply Smoke Test?

I'm finishing up recapping my SE/30's power supply. This is not my first re-cap, but my first for a power supply. Is there a way to "smoke test' this without hooking it up to the Mac's analog board? While I will double check all my replacement cap's polarity and values, I'd like to avoid drama inside these very pricey SE30's.

You could at least power it up disconnected and put a meter on the pins to check voltages. If it is a Sony, it may be nice to do that before putting the cover on so you can turn the adjustment pot to set voltages where you want to account for reduction with load.

I did a little research and in case someone else stumbles on this thread I'm including the section on testing the power supply before you reinstall in Larry Pina's Classic & SE Repair and Upgrade Secrets and adjusting the p.s. from Douglass High's 1992 Troubleshooting your Macintosh.
