SE/30 Recap Gone Wrong

I just made my first attempt at recapping and it's not gone well.
I bought this SE/30 in November 2020 and it was in good working order except that the sound was very faint, a sign that the capacitors were failing. I hadn't used it much since then because I kept putting off recapping it. Fast forward to last months, I turned it on because I had an itch to do something with it. It booted up, but there were black vertical lines every 8 pixels across the screen.

I knew it was time to bite the bullet so I bought a cap kit from Console5 and set to work.
When I removed the logic board, one of the capacitors fell right off and there was nasty crud on the board where it was. I somehow managed to remove the rest of the caps without lifting any pads, and there was crud under a few others, C3 being the worst. I cleaned them off as best I could and soldered the new caps on.

I checked all my work as closely as I could and did not see any glaring faults, so I plugged everything back in and turned it on. The result was unpleasant: The speaker was crackling with no apparent startup chime, and I only had a bright horizontal line across the screen.

The line flickered off or got brighter if I moved the machine. Curiously the line seemed to have the same gap every 8 pixels that the display did before, so I didn't even fix that problem.

I got suggestions on the Discord to try reflowing the analog board solder joints next. Any other suggestions for how I should go about to diagnosing and fixing my issues?

Looks like an analog board issue for sure. Something with the vertical sweep. Have you verified your power supply voltage output is correct? I agree that starting with a reflow of all connectors on the AB is a good starting point. Also verify the 4-pin connector for the yoke is not burned and is making proper contact. Worst case, you could pick up a spare analog board from another machine (SE or SE/30).

Your recap job did not fix your jailbars because it's a problem with the video circuitry on the logic board. See my related thread here on a possible fix: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads...rizontal-bars-vertical-lines.2728/#post-23856

I did not recap or do any work on the analog board; it showed no sign of any issues before so I didn't bother. Thank you for affirming that I should try reflowing the solder joints on it. I'll get around to that... eventually.

I recommend always checking the Dead Mac Scrolls when you have issues with your compact Macs. That incredible is your BEST FRIEND when it comes to any Vintage Mac. I have an original paper copy, but the good news it has been scanned and made available online, fully keyword searchable.

More specifically, page 164 in that book mentions the problem of the horizontal line very well could be a cracked solder joint (fixable by desoldering):

And if that doesn't resolve the horizontal line issue, page 165 mentions it could be one particular component that has gone bad.
